We're now seeing attempts to weaken these processes in the name of safety, and -- regrettably -- many of these proposals are coming from pro-gun people who are essentially scapegoating people with mental illness, who are far less likely to perpetrate violence than to be its victims.

To me that is the crux of the issue. Properly treated mental health issues are, like many other treated medical conditions, not a major threat to public safety. If we start removing rights from those who have sought or are seeking treatment we create untreated mental health issues because people will be hesitant to seek treatment. Untreated mental health issues are a concern.

The above is copied from the form. It makes it perfectly clear that lying on this form is a felony. Committing a felony is not protected by the 5th Amendment.
