He is impulsive. If this flashes on his radar he might very well decide to get involved.

If he doesn't I don't expect this trial to result in any selection(the most likely outcome).
 
Micromanaging negotiations for his private ride isn't the same thing is micromanaging administrative decisions for each branch of the service and branches of government. About a billion things are going to 'flash' on Trump's radar in the next few weeks. The likelihood of him PICKING a pistol for the Army and issuing an EO for it is zero.
