"New" 38/44 Outdoorsman

Quote: "Hell, I'm gonna shoot it. I know, I'm a moron, but I'm gonna be a happy moron with a great shooting gun"

Moron? Hardly. Shoot that revolver, and until Roy Jinks himself runs up and plucks it from your hand, refer any cringing preservationists to me. I'll take them plate shooting with my pre-Trooper .357 and my Pachmayr.

Time machines DO exist. Many congratulations on yours.

Wow! (Oh, wait, I already said that.)

I sure as heck would shoot it. It's already sat long enough in the box.

RogerC....

for aging purposes, I have a S&W 38/44 (not an Outdoorsman) with fixed sights that I bought MANY years ago from the original owner and he bought it new in 1937 or 1938 (he wasn't sure which). Shoots great. ;)

Life WAS simpler back when TV was black and white

I LOVE black & white.....

Like I said over on FFF Rog...........That's one beautiful revolver! ;)

I'm very much in the minority on the fire/don't fire issue.
I wouldn't fire it.
*shrug* That's just me.

Kind of catch and release gun owning. ;)

Re: The paper. You can always press it between a couple pieces of glass to preserve it.

(hmmm, sounds like I'm into the build a shrine stage):D

I'd probably shoot it too. I bought a pristine condition Colt Officer's Model Match made in the late 40's with the box and paperwork, even had the original test target with it. I shot it in matches for years and it was and still is one of the nicest shooting guns in my collection.

I am thinking of trading it for something I can shoot.

I have had many people tell me not to shoot it. Maybe it will be better off with a serious collector.

I'm a serious collector, let me take it off your hands! Serious, I'll give it all the love and attention it needs. Only problem, Ca., those SOB's in the DOJ made it so that guns that aren't on the approval list may only be bought through party/party transfers within the borders of Ca., I can't have a party outside of Ca. send the gun to my FFL here in town then sign the paperwork to take possession of it. It's just so confounding aggrivating that it makes ya want to spit.

I feel sorry for you Californians.

Why don't you vote all those a-holes that passed that crap out of office???

That is a very fine revolver. Given its collector quality condition, the price you paid was a steal. I don't buy guns this nice as I prefer a well-worn shooter.

Two years ago flew to Denver for a "get away weekend" and went to show there. Bought Heavy Duty with 4" for $199. Used it last month in IDPA match. Took first in service revolver class.

Sam....

the funny part of it is my 5' 1/4" wife prefers to shoot that heavy old six-shooter over all of my other handgunds. She's no "dead-eye Dick", but she can keep'em all in COM on an NRA B-27 target. I've thought many times about selling or trading it, but I just can't bring myself to dispose of my very first handgun.

I know it's older than I am (but not much). It may even be older than you, Sam. :D

If it's older than me, it's a spear.:D

My grannie on pop's side was about that size and carried a hand ejector .44 in her purse. She was good with it too.

Sam, not Yosimite, he has hair and longer arms.

Uglygun,
I believe if a gun is 50 years or older it can legally be shipped to your dealer California from another state.

Randy

Randy63, I think you are correct. Still though, it means I'd have to wait 4-5 more years minimum for some of the Outdoorsman years.

Sorry guys....I traded it to a more serious collector, who will keep it pristene. I got these two in exchange, which I'll be more than happy to shoot the hell out of!!

NIB 581 4 inch.

Like new M27 3 1/2 incher.

The white spots on the barrels are reflections of some sort. Both guns are sweet.
