New 243, which one?

I ordered mine from Buds, should arrive next wed or so..cant wait to start loading for it as soon as I can measure the chamber length. I have all the components on hand and ready to go. Thank everyone for the feedback and answers to my questions.

For those contemplating these, I would add CZ to the consideration.

From what I can tell it has the same barrel profile as the large calibers up to 270 maybe 30-06.

It would make a nice varmint gun with the relatively heavier barrel.

That may be true of the other choices as well.

Finally got my hands on my new Vanguard in 243, mounted a 3.5-10 bushnell on it just to try it out today. Shot a couple 3/4" groups at 100 yds then took it to 200 and shot a .542 with 70 gr Sierra Match, I am more that pleased, cant wait to mount my new scope, 8-24 bushnell and give that a try..

Good to hear you got your new rifle and it sounds like it shoots good. I have been using that same bullet in my Ruger M77 MarkII and like the results. Only problem is I haven't been able to find them to purchase in many months. I have 20 more to load up and then I'm out. At this time I'm working with it at 100 yards but someday I will try 200. I may need to upgrade from my 3-9 Leupold scope if I do much of the 200 yard and beyond shooting. Keep us up to date on how things are going with your new rifle.

Hey Cary, I had very good results with both 60 gr HP sierras and 85 gr HPBT..I will keep you posted once I get my new more powerful scope mounted..

I'm a big fan of the quality within older Winchester model 670. These rifles typically sell for about $425. on GunBroker.com and other sites. The 670 was same as model 70 except for a cheaper grade of wood. They're great rifles!

So the Nikon Buckmaster 6-18 on your .223 is an adequate scope for some long distance shooting? Like I mentioned I may need to upgrade my scope to a higher magnification with 200 yards and beyond target shooting if I want decent results.
Cary

I was shooting my 223 at 450 yds yesterday and the buckmaster was more than adequate it has a mildot which really helps, I was hitting a 1' square steel plate.
The scope I have coming for the 243 is a 8-24 bushnell, not a high priced scope but I will give it a go, it too has mildot.

Magnification for longrange shooting

I have used a 2-8 to 500 yards and 3-12,4-12 and 4-16 for beyond that distance. I like Nikon's BDC reticle because of what Spot On Ballistic Program lets me accomplish using my shooting data. Even if you don't use a BDC reticle there is still a lot of information you can obtain that will make your shots more accurate.

This is my M-223 3-12 BDC 600 scope on my JP upper. Awesome combination when I use Winchesters 55 gr. BST ammo.
