Am going through the same process and will go for the CZ527 - just not sure if to go with the American or the Varmint model.

1 think to consider, if you can get the 1:9 twist barrel, it might give you some flexibility if you want to use a 60gr + pill at some point.

just got done looking at a brand new Tikka in 223, just dont care much for the composite stock, would I be a fool or ruin the accuracy if I were to say put a boyds thumbhole stock on it? It has a hell of a nice trigger and its light but the stock just doesnt grab me, price new 569.00..blued, stainless could be had for 659.00

When the holes are touching or are in the same hole at 100 yards, you might not care much about the stock; unless it just doesn't fit you. If it did bother you, I wouldn't consider changing it until you have put a fair number of rounds down range, then see what you think.

I have a .223 T3 with a 1-10 twist blued. I also have a T3 30-06 SS. I also have a .223 Remington 1-12 Varmint barrel with a little work and a Jewell trigger that regularly gets .2-.3" groups.

The T3 superlite comes with a 1-8 barrel for .223 and they claim 5.8 lbs. According to their website all .223s come with 1-8 now. Their are still some 1-10s out there; check their site for their info, and read the actual barrel (it will have a single number for the twist, eg 8 or 10).

I considered the superlite, but wanted a 1-10 because I like shooting 40-60 grainers in .223; anything heavier and I go up in cartridge/rifle;
, so far.

I recently picked up my .223 T3, after loving my 30-06 this moose season, and just shot it again today. Holes touching at 100 yards; definitely sub-MOA. Shooting off of a leadsled to fine tune my scope.

I like my heavy barreled Remington with a 1 lbs Jewell trigger better, but it is a boat anchor compared to the T3. And only having my new .223 T3 out twice and getting touching holes/sub-MOA this early out, I have a new favorite walking around/just for fun of it rifle. (For now.)

MJFlores, I was just at Riley's yesterday, no winchesters, I did see that Kittery had a model 70 used the other day on their website but now its gone. Riley's has the Tikka for 569.00 blued, not a bad price but before I buy I am going to take a ride to Kittery and look at their new and used selections in person. I am kinda partial to the ruger m77 but they are a bit pricey new.Hell, its only money, right?

I'm really happy with my Remington 700 SPS in .223

Darn, last I was at Rileys that has a few Model 70's, including a nice .223 sporter. I keep checking for a Feather weight in .30/06...when I see one it's coming home with me.

I do have a model 700 .223 (heavy barrel). It's extremely accurate, just wish it was a Winchester.

I think I have ~ 9 rifles in .223, which is not many, but I have > 10,000 pieces of .223 brass. I have killed thousands of rodents with the .223.

None of the bolt actions are as good as the Ruger #1V .223.
I got mine off the internet auction for $500 in 2007.

I am heading to the gun shop this evening to look at a remington 700 vtr in 223 this afternoon, I like the looks of it with the triangle barrel and its said to shoot real well and the price is right, 650.00..

That triangular barrer will be a bugger to cut down and recrown, add sights to or thread for a moderator. And I just don't like remmies...

I think it will be ok for me, It comes with rings so no sights will be needed and as far as re crowning, I dont have a clue what that is..

Crown: Bend of the barrel where the bullet comes out of. Important for accuracy as last point of contact between bullet and barrel.

If you shorten the barrel you will want it recrowned.

Thanks Scrummy, At 22 inches now I doubt I would ever shorten it. I will look at other rifles at the shop I am going to, they have a large selection but I think it will be the vtr.

Well, I talked to my brother and he told me that some of his friends had had rifles with muzzle breaks and the muzzle blast was bad so I got to rethinking the Remington vtr. Went back to the gun shop down the road and was looking at the Tikka t3 again but still didnt like the stock, I like a nice wood stock. Low and behold I get a email from Boyds tonight and they are now making replacement laminate stocks for the Tikka t3, I will be going to buy a Tikka t3 . The stock clinched it. I have also heard ringing endorsements about the Tikka. For the money I doubt I can go wrong. Just a FYI for those of you that offered all your great input and I really appreciate it. Hopefully as time goes on I can do the same for others..
