New .22 Ordered

I bought one for my mrs it doesn't run very well. with any of the ammo I have on hand. Kinda felt like I bought a P22...:( I have better guns to use and ones she shoots better.

If its not your first 22 enjoy but it would be hard to recommend this to someone just learning.

There is one seller on Gunbroker that's selling all black SR22's for $259, buy it now. I almost bought one, but instead won an auction on a GSG Firefly, the old Sig Mosquito, for $154, junk or not, for that price I don't care.

I thought I would hate the color on that one. But after looking at the pic, it's really not that bad.
Everything I own is blued or stainless, and I will keep it that way. But I think the DeWalt Ruger is actually fun.
Enjoy, hope it runs well.

I wasn't a .22 fan until recently but the last few months I've been shooting a lot or .22. It mostly started out based on ammo cost.
At this point I've got a Browning Buckmark, a Ruger Mark IV, Savage Mark II, Mossberg 802 plinkster (not to fond of this one mostly because of Mossberg's crappy attitude about selling parts) and just got a CMMG conversion kit for my AR's.

My only problem with the SR22 is the factory sights or lack of replacements. I have no clue how many rounds I have on mine that is 3 years old. With very little issues. You will love that pistol.

I didn't think I cared for colored guns before, but Ruger sure is making them more appealing to me lately. I'm about to get a takedown lite, which now comes in 6 colors! Really like the Red, but will most likely get the black since it's cheaper and available. One thing I wish Ruger would do for these special edition colors is match their logo color to the color used on those models. On the rifles they have the big red logo on the bottom of the grip area. It makes it looks a little too busy with the color pattern on any of the non red/black guns. That's my thoughts anyway.

I also have my eye on an SR22 in the Steel/Grey frame.

I like it, these are great little shooters and we sell alot of them to people with smaller hands and they also are super easy to rack the slide. As for the colors i'm all for them, if someone buys a gun just because the color is different them so be it. If you think about it its pretty dark in a bag or purse and if the gun stands out and is easier to see when you need it then.....

I traded for an SR22 a couple of years ago. While it's nice to carry, I feel it's difficult to shoot accurately(maybe not any more so than other short barreled pistols). If used with "new shooters" be extra careful when handling the little beast as it's more difficult to maintain "muzzle awareness". On top of all this, it's obnoxiously loud with HV ammo.

"They also can be quieted down quite a bit with the right muzzle attachment."
A word of caution on this. The barrel is secured by a SINGLE SMALL SCREW. With a muffler of average size attached, the chances of loosening or completely breaking the frame to barrel attachment are high should the pistol be dropped or significantly bumped.

"How does the action, accuracy compare to the MK II, III series? These are hammer fired?"

The MK and 22/45 pistols have an "internal hammer" and are "single action semi-auto" while the SR22 has an "exposed hammer" and is "SA/DA semi-auto". The SR single action trigger is sort of OK but nothing to compare with the MK & 22/45.
Accuracy is a factor of design and the SR isn't what I'd call "designed for accuracy". Here's a personal comparison I can make:I have a 4" 22/45 that is capable of 3-4" groups @ 100 yards with the right accessories (3x scope, muzzle extension, sandbag rest)to test it's mechanical accuracy. The absolute best group I've seen from an SR22 is about 3-4" @ 50' due to the short sight radius, small grips, iffy trigger, and light weight.

Thanks for the good info. I thought they were striker fired. I think I would go for a MK 4 5.5 Target instead these days in that case. But the newness model is a little worrisome.

I wanted a semi auto that resembled my 9mms and .45s, as I already have a mk1 Ruger with a pencil barrel. I wanted one with a full slide that they could get used too.
