Never Forget

You have the right to bear arms because an awful lot of men and women have shed their blood to protect that right, guaranteed by our Constitution. Today, the fifth anniversary of 9/11/01, do something. Sign up to volunteer somewhere. Send a card or letter to someone serving in our military. Go give blood if you're healthy enough. Hey, go to the shooting range and use your second amendment rights.

Never forget that five years ago today, 19 cowards killed 2700 of our brothers and sisters. Never forget that they attacked icons of our financial, military and, if the heroes who took down the plane in Pennsylvania hadn't succeeded, our political life as Americans because we are free and they can't stand it. For a slightly longer essay on the same topic, see my blog, below.

But...Never forget.

thanks

Thank you, Capt. Charlie, for that link. I dripped all the way through it. And then sent it to all my kids.

Poly, you must be from the West coast. Just another day? Some people on this site already know that I was in the NYC metro area on 9/11/01 and I personally seen both towers fall. Before 9/11 I trusted politicians. Before 9/11 I had a few Muslim friends. Before 9/11 I would have call you crazy if you kept extra cans of tuna for emergency. That changed. I feel most politicians are scumbags. I still know a lot of Muslim people, but after 9/11 I honestly can't trust any of them anymore. As an American I don't feel 100% safe on my own soil anymore.

I know most of America like to get out the flag on 9/11 and try to feel all warm and fuzzy about the whole thing. I watched the CNN rebroadcast of their 9/11/01 telecast on the web. The best part was the 20 or so minutes leading up to the first plane hitting the tower. Americans really did not have a care in the world that day. We were worried about Michael Jordan, Fashion for Pregnant women, just plain fluff.

What I took from that day is that life is short, and there are people in the world out there who want us dead, and would kill you when you least expect it. I don't remember Flags and Candle holding, I remember a regular day, where almost 3000 people died just because religious wackos wanted to prove a point. Unlike a soldier in a war zone, or a cop in a bad neighborhood, the victims did not see it coming that day and assumed they would see their families on 9/12. You want a link. watch this one. This is what I saw that day across the Hudson in NJ. Kevin Cosgrove though he was safe on 9/11/01. For those who think its just another day, just remember, your not safe. You could some day be in the wrong place at the wrong time. If Al Qaeda had the chance they would kill you and your family, simply because your an American.

Edit- I watched the entire Capt Charlie link. I take it back, it is not patriot fluff, but it takes a while to get to the point.

Seriously, Poly. That was some really insensitive garbage to go and post on a webpage, on the anniversary of 9/11...

Shame on you.

Springmom, you have once again proven your wisdom and integrity. I will try to do something special today.

I will always remember where I was, and what I was doing on that day. We should all REMEMBER. We should all teach our chlildren about that day. We need to remember that day, every day, for the rest of our lives.

It is sad, but not surprising, that folks like polymer think the way that they do. For most of the Sheep, it is just another day.

Please keep it impersonal here

There is nothing, nothing impersonal about 9/11. We will never forget because it was a symbolic assault on everything we are, everything we love, everything we believe. Don't for a moment kid yourselves that American Muslims were secretly cheering bin Laden. Muslims who are American suffered that day. For that matter, many Muslims both American and foreign DIED that day. It is not about Islam, it is about the ultra-fundamentalist Wahhabi sect of Islam that was started by Ibn Saud, back when he was nothing but a desert raider and warlord who needed an "in" to get power in an otherwise fairly moderate Arabia.

And as for Polymer: I refuse to be baited. However, if you want to read more on his thoughts on this, go here:

http://darrendixon.supanet.com/operationnorthwood.htm

since he posted this as his take on 9/11 some time back on another thread.

But if this is a day for remembrance of the dead, please, guys, don't get this thread shut down by slamming anybody who writes on this board. If you want to tell somebody what you think and it's gonna be ugly or angry do a PM not a post here. Please. Let's not get this one shut down for personal attacks.

Thanks, all, you're the greatest.

springmom, I already posted that link in another thread.

Mikeyboy, like springmom, I'm from TX. south central texas.

sorry if I come off as being insensitive, I'm just not fazed by emotionally-charged rhetoric; especially when we haven't been told the whole story. They died...and for what? A lot of families of victims of that fateful day feel the same way.
Remember this..The 9/11 Commission wasn't an independent panel.

I'll be honest though...what really still gets me, are the images of people jumping off the buildings. That's a pretty chilling scene.

They died because they were symbols. They died because they worked in buildings that were seen worldwide as symbols of capitalism. They died because they were equated with everything that Usama bin Laden and his crew hate. They died because they are just like you and me...westerners,
Americans, whom these guys want to see with OUR NECKS UNDER THEIR BOOTS.

That's why.

I don't give a RIP about the 9/11 commission, I care about the people who died for no other reason than they were US. You and me. And if you think this is some sort of plot by the CIA to start a war to boost our economy, that's crazy.

Springmom

I'll tell you what's crazy.. not questioning authority.
something real patriots have done, since the founding of this country. The minute you leave your gov't unchecked, and give them all outright power, you might as well consider yourself a communist.

As for the people who died senselessly for whatever reason the powers that be would like you to believe, or the less obvious... I'll light a candle this evening for them.

Good video Mikeyboy. It really shows what those people on the top floors who couldn't get out were going through. Many people try to turn 9/11 into a political issue. People being MASSED MURDERED by terrorists is not a political issue! This day is not just another day. Most Americans sit in front of their tv or computer and could give a care as to what goes on around them. Let us never forget the soldiers who daily defend our right to be Americans. They volunter to protect all Americans even the ones who don't deserve it.

I forgot to say thanks to Springmom for her great comments on this subject. I definatly back what you say!

The 9/11 Commission wasn't an independent panel.

Funny seems their were both Democrats and Republicans on the commision the last I checked. ABC makes a miniseries about the events leading up to 9/11 based on the commisions report and only the Democrats and the Clinton Admin fight to get the show dropped or edited. The Clinton adminstration nixed a snatch and grab attempt on Bin Laden. The incident was mentioned during the hearings, so it happened. The CIA agent involved, while a strong critic of the Bush Adminstration, said the incident happened, but back petalled saying that he was not sure exactly who was involved with the conference call that shut down the operation.

Bush can be an Idiot, but at least he is an honest Idiot.

It really shows what those people on the top floors who couldn't get out were going through. Many people try to turn 9/11 into a political issue. People being MASSED MURDERED by terrorists is not a political issue

I wouldn't have cared if Al Gore or George Bush was president, it still would have happened. I fault Bush for RUSHING into war with Iraq, and pulling resourse away from the hunt for Bin Laden. It's been 5 years, Bin Laden Should Be Dead. I still think based on the evidence at the time we still needed to do something about Iraq, but they should have contained Iraq until they finished the job in Afganistan. I did not vote for Al Gore in 2000, because honestly he was a wacko. If Al Gore was president, and he killed Bin Laden within his first term, I would have forgot about all the wacko "I invented the Internet" comments and thought he was the greatest president ever.

exactly. both sides = gov't
they're both one and the same. once you actually realize that, you'll be awake.

Bush can be an Idiot, but at least he is an honest Idiot.

LMAO oh reallly.... so he never violated the FISA Act?

springmom, sorry for raining on your parade. (though it is rainy out here in hill country today)

I'll refrain from posting any more unwarranted cynicism in this tread. mourn if you so wish. I too can empathize with their families, to some extent.

If there is any criticism to be made it's that prior to 9/11 they put a bomb in the WTC .That was a big WARNING and the Gov't didn't listen.

Insensitive

Polymer,
Your remarks were very insensitive, but you are entitled to your opinion. Heck you can even share your opinion, but you could have done it in a more polite and courteous manner. If you do not care then so be it, but many people (including myself) lost people were knew in those buildings. For you to come in here and make those remarks, is equivocal to urinating on a friends grave. IMHO. Those people went to work, like most of us do, as if everything was normal. It was not, nobody saw it coming. What did those people die for? They died for going to work. To live out what we all strive for, a better life. That is all, and that is the part that we should remember. That some people want to see our way of life destroyed, some people do not want the United States to exsist. We remember them so as not to forget. Dragging in suspicion and reports from anything after 9/11/01, is a moot point, we are remembering the fallen. Not making a political statement.

I am not going to get upset or begin a posting battle with you. You have said your peace, I am saying mine.

the suspicion actually precedes 9/11 (back to Waco, in fact), and yes, the possible cover-up following it.

I have made my peace, again, apologies for the insensitivity. have a good one.

While on one hand I think it's good to remember, I think we should also remember WHY. But in order to remember WHY, we'd actually have to find out WHY. And while I think springfieldmom is a person of phenominal character, I'm afraid that to believe 9/11 happened because "these guys want to see (us) with OUR NECKS UNDER THEIR BOOTS" is wrong. Due to the great size and might of our country, noone could ever hope to subdue us under their boots, but I feel that there are a growing number of people worldwide who would greatly like to have their necks released from ours. But to rationalize that great catastrophic even as something fueled by the desire to subdue US...I feel is incorrect.

How about this. Without turning this into a giant flamefest, anyone else care to submit their answer to the question: Why were we attacked on 9/11? (In one sentence or less)
