Any good CZ75 clone or derivative.

The Canik/Tristar is supposed to be an excellent deal.

I got a used Tanfoglio CZ75 clone and love it.

What about the Taurus PT92? I actually prefer the Taurus safety over the original Beretta. I know they've had reliability issues in the past, but I was under the impression that this has since been rectified, and did not include the PT92 anyway.

There is one pistol that easily fills the standards set by the OP,
but is not on his list...the Star 31P

15-rd mags, double stack, and basically S&W ripped off the Star 28 to create its 3rd Gen lineup's style ;)

For the $350 range, really surprised nobody has brought up the Beretta/Stoeger Cougar yet, or a good used PX4. Then there's always the old Ruger P-series...

Being as he specifically stated he was looking for a DA/SA rather than an SAO pistol, I think the High Power as awesome a gun as it is, doesn't meet the criteria.

Uhhhh, come again please?

I do see the added smiley at the end, was this a joke -- or half a joke or is there some meat to what you are saying here? Obviously (to most of us), the Smith & Wesson 3rd Gen pistols are just the natural evolution of the 2nd Gen pistols and the first of them all, the Model 39 which debuted in the 1950's.

The Model 39 and the Model 5906 run almost exactly the same design lines.

I know that Star is a historic company also, did their guns and the one you mention pre-date the Smith & Wesson pistols? If so, maybe your argument should state "the S&W pistols" rather than the 3rd Gen pistols... because the 3rd Gens arrived in 88-89 or so, but they are hardly different in visual styling than the Models 39/59 that predate them by decades.

Fell into one

Guys,
I want to thank all of you for chiming in on this thread with recommendations. I kinda fell into one. My Father in Law informed me that he wanted to sell his pistol. The gun only has 50 rounds through it. He said it was too big for him to CC so he carries his SCCY now and is a happy camper. SO I'm going to pick up his Taurus PT 24/7 Pro CD S, for 250 bucks. I don't know what generation it is or whatever, it has the stainless slide. Not quite the barrel length I was after, and its striker fired but I just can't pass it up for the price. Comes with 4 mags, 2 different holsters and he is gonna give me a few boxes of ammo.

I have an alloy hammer-fired compact CZ75D PCR 14+ 1... but also recommend the Taurus PT111 millennium G2 12+1, a striker fired poly gun with strike two capability
