Need some advice on buying a new .357

I'm with tulsamal. I bought a Ruger Security Six with a 4" barrel last year. It's stainless steel, and in fab condition. With a bit of judicious internal work, the trigger is truly excellent- as "good as a Smith"? I don't know, and I don't care. The trigger pull is smooth and light, the gun is tight and far more accurate than I need. Cost me 2 1/2 bills, in near-new condition. Am I pleased, or what?

If S&W and Ruger are your choices...

For S&W, the 686 is the way to go. Larger frame and more meat to it.
It will handle hot 357s all day long and still take the punishment.

Same thing for the Ruger GP100. I think the Rugers are bit better built, but, a bit rougher in the trigger.

I have a S&W, Ruger, and Taurus and like them all for differnet things.
The S&W cause of its name. (mine was a cop trade-in)
The Ruger cause its a 3" nose and handles hot loads just fine...all day long.
The taurus cause their are hi-cap (7shot M66 and 8shot 608)
