Excellent choice!

Hop0626,

You made an excellent choice with your new S&W! FiringLine Forum members steered you in the right direction. Practice safely with that baby and you can be confident should the proverbial GRITS hit the pan
Don't forget to enjoy this gun at the range; revolvers are fun to shoot with .38's.
Respectfully,
Larry C.

Well, since you already bought the gun (good choice, BTW), I'll comment on the ammo.

The Speer 135 or 125-gr ammo would be my choice (be sure and check that you can carry +p ammo! It would be considered "normal" ammo for police work, but just to be sure). After that, the Hydra-Shok and Silvertip ammo are good. The premium ammo is worth getting for carry. You can practice with cheaper ammo, just make sure it's the same weight projectile as your carry ammo.

I used a S&W Model 64-NY1 (DAO) with a Hogue NYLON grip.
Qualified my first try and the gun was super slick. The nylon grip didn't grab at my uniform while I drove the Armored Car. :D

Nice buy on your personal firearm. Get to know and love her. ;)

Ok here is what I need to get next. Duty grade left handed holster. I have been looking on ebay they seem to have alot of stuff I would perfer a basket weave holster becuase thats what the rest my my durty gear is made of, Can anyone help me out finding one I found these two links for left handed holster on ebay will ethier one of these work for my S&W model 67ss

Once again thanks everyone for all the info

I carry the .38 Corbon DPX 110gr. It will do anything a +P will do and keep you in standard pressure. It is designed for deeper penetration, due the Barnes X bullet that is used. The is my security patrol duty load.

in Georgia and Alabama security guards are restricted by law to the .38 special caliber revolver...you can get fired for carrying a .357 magnum

Not to contradict anyone, and with all respect, I think if you get some 158gr LSWCHP+Ps, you'll do just fine. It seems to be about the ideal load out of a 4" barrel. It's been referred to as the Metro load, RCMP load, FBI load, NYPD load, etc. I've put a few through a deer carcass as a test a few years ago and it really expands well.
FWIW
YMMV

The gp100 is available in .38 special only, if you would consider ruger. it's model gpf-840/841. fixed sights only.

it's funny to me that he states in the original post that security guard firms restrict their employees to the humble .38 special revolver and he was basically ignored :D

I guess I have one of the rare GP100s chambered for .38 Special. Must be some overrun from a contract.

I'd go with a S&W M64 before I would choose the GP.

won't plain jane M-10 S&W accept crimson trace if you get the right kind of rubber grips? That would be my choice if I had to have crimson trace

In my non-expert opinion you've made a good choice.
I've had a Model 67 for many years and I've shot it a lot.
Very accurate and tough.
Your grips are perfect for the gun.

I'm gonna vote for the S&W M686 with a 4" bbl. Get one of the older versions like the -5 that does not have the integral lock. Get Stainless Steel. Use only Safariland Comp 2 speedloaders. Load it with Speer Gold Dot hollowpoints in .38spl caliber.

In this configuration, I moved money around the southeast with complete confidence for four years. With the full-length underlug, you can drop an entire cylinder on target with very little muzzle climb. The SC2 speedloaders work in standard duty-style holders and are faster and more durable than HKS.

Great gun, though. Very durable, accurate, reliable. If I could find a good kydex duty holster, I'd switch back from my CZ75b without hesitation.
