Another vote for the CZ 75 BD.....Its just what you describe and isnt over 600 $. More like 400-450 $
The Taurus PT 940 is absolutely one of my favorite guns.....mine was flawless and will have another within a month or so....
BUT.....I have large hands and it wouldnt be what you describe wanting...the grip is just barely long enough to be comfy and get a good grip on...a vantastic CCW. It is the same size as my 2 other compact sized S/AUTO's. The PT945 is a bigger gun.......
