Need help in picking a 45 acp 3"

I have a Sig Ultra that's been 100% with magazines it likes. It can be a little finicky about mags, but so can many 1911s. Granted, I haven't run thousand-plus round torture tests on it, but it ran a few hundred rounds in a range session without a single hiccup.

I also have a XDS in .45 that's every bit as reliable, much cheaper, and lighter.

Both are great guns I have no problem with recommending.

I handled the kimber crimson ultra carry ll & Colt Defender, haven't handled the Colt New Agent. Will have the chance tomorrow, all black with crimson laser grips in black. My be just what I'm looking for.

I also carry a New Agent in .45. If you don't like the trench sight, it appears Colt is making a blued/black Defender in .45 with normal sights as well.

Thanks for getting back. The new agent is discontinued, the gun shop had two without the laser grips. Found & bought on line from Bud's for $ 963. shipped to FFL $25 will take about a week. How do you like yours? What round do you use? Chris

My dad has a para with a full size grip but 3" barrel. Very nice shooting gun, very accurate, but para quality is spotty. And they are now out of business if you need factory warranty work.

The NA is out of production, Colts warranty is not. I'm giving them a call tomorrow with some questions. The Colt New Agent just felt better in my hand, then the 3" Kimber & the Colt Defender. And with the crimson lazer grips, its just perfect. Chris

That's where I ordered mine from. Have to call them tomorrow, they emailed me due to a issue with the order. Wish me luck.

I would never have been looking for a 3" pistol in .45 ACP chambering. Then a few years ago I got a shot at the below Kimber Ultra pictured below for dirt cheap as seen in the picture.

I never would have thought a 3" .45 ACP would deliver accuracy. The gun has functioned flawless since I got it. My original thought was since the gun was so low priced I would just buy and sell to turn a buck but I liked the gun and kept it. Anyway, the Kimber Ultra CDP II has worked well for me, I can't speak for others.

Looks like you picked a good one. I've had good luck with Colt's products.

For those still following the thread, another option/opinion:

Para Ordnance LDA 45 Carry. This is an older, Canadian-made model that belonged to an East Coast LEO before I acquired it:

I traded for it several years ago. I’m not sure I would have paid the cash dollars for it, as I feared I might not like the LDA trigger. I did.

I also was somewhat wary about whether it would be accurate. It is.

It has been 100% reliable for 7+ years now and is the only .45 I routinely conceal-carry (and I own more than one .45).

Someone apparently still sells new ones:

Is a 4" Compact too much for you? Same grip frame, but that extra inch of barrel is quite welcome, ballistically, and just as easy to conceal/carry.

I would suggest a 4" Compact be among your considerations. I have two, Kimber Compact CDP and Kimber Compact - they're pre-series II models and of great quality. They come up on Gunbroker and such from time to time.

Things didn't go so well with Bud's. Being I live in Nassau county they would not ship to the FFL. Turnes out they wouldn't even ship the the gun shop, even if they purchased it for me. Would ship if I lived in Suffolk county to a FFL in Suffolk. The Nassau gun shop called for me Bud's turned out it's there policy, not a legal issue. Bad business practice when as a gun distributer you pick & choose who you deal with. Very strange.
Found the same firearm on gunbroker. On the way to the FFL.
Will keep you posted on the gun. Thank you all for your feed back.

If looking for new then I would go with a Colt Defender or a New Agent (discontinued a year and a half ago but still probably available NIB online). I had a New Agent with the XS sights and found to be a great choice for concealed carry. I also have an older Colt Officers Model which has also been very reliable though a bit heavier with it's steel frame versus the lighter weight alloy frames of the Defender and New Agent.

Company policy, Bud's does not ship to Nassau county. Found the gun on gunbroker New for a better price from Nashville Gun Company. Shipping to a FFL no problems. Learn something new every day.

What holster is your limber in?

psyfly
Nice pistol, looks like a limber with a different trigger

Galco Royal Defense is the holster pictured with my Kimber. It came with the gun when I got the gun. Likewise for the magazine pouch, it is Galco.

Never knew they (Bud's) wouldn't ship to Nassau County, that sucks.

Bud's made no sense to me , spoke to customer service 3 times, their FFL dept., came down to the company didn't ship to anyone in Nassau county. Suffolk was fine. I could have had the gun store buy the gun , Then I could buy it from them , price would have been much higher.
If your reloading, what powder & bullet are you using for your Limber. Be Well Chris

Chris, I will just chalk up the Nassau County thing to something I do not understand. Apparently Bud's guns doesn't understand it either. :) When loading .45 ACP I am sort of traditional using Unique & Win 231 and 230 grain XTP bullets or just everyday round nose. I also like the VihtaVuori powders like N-330.

Thanks Ron
I plan on shooting & reloading for the 45 when the weather gets colder. Shooting indoors at the Mitchell field range. I'll check with Midway & Midsouth for the powder. Thanks again.
