Kimber has a lot of models & options. Some have barrel bushings some don't. I am zeroing in on the Ultra Carry ll Stainless. Need some of your input.

I was looking at a used Kimber at my LGS but opted for a XDS and have no regrets.

I went with a Springfield Micro Compact 3".

Carried it daily for about 5 years, shot it regularly, never had any issues other than erratic ejection pattern.

I have an older Kimber ('97), and love it, but wouldn't buy a new one. Their quality seems to have slipped, and its too much money for me to pay for just a name with so many other good options out there.

There are reasons that light bullets are more reliable in a 3" 45acp !! So if you have problems with heavies try the light ones .

Kahr now has a store at their new headquartes in Pike Co PA.Apparently all the Kahr stuff plus a few others ,Mimi -14 and pump shotguns for PA hunting . Also had a nice talk with the boss !i

Colt New Agent.

Snag-free "sights" because it uses the "trench" or "trough" sighting system rather than the default 3-dot or tritium Novak's.

At the real-world distance in which you'd actually use a 3" .45 defensively, you won't need traditional sights - mainly because you won't have the time, and the likely proximity of the bad-guy will render it unnecessary anyway.

That said, if you have to have sights, the 3" Defender comes with Novak's.

UCII SS is a great carry gun if you want to go with an all metal gun. a polymer would be lighter for daily carry but I carry my UCII occasionally and have had zero issues with it. For accuracy and reliability in the compact 1911 I have not found a better one.

I've been looking at a few, Colt Defender & New agent, both are fine weapons. I have a full size Colt Govt. 70 series chrome plated in very good condition that I will put towards a traid in. I will look at the Kimber Ultra Eclipse ll LG. 3" has everything in one package. I like handling every one before I pull the trigger. I'll read reviews for a little insight, but all comes down to how it feels in my hand.

Should've posted this before ...

Colt New Agent.

I had bad luck with a Kimber . So for a compact 1911 I went with the Colt Defender . When the new Agent came out I bought one. I could never get used to that sight so sold it. Defender a good carry 185 or 200 gr works best in these 3" guns.

Kimbers have had QC issues regardless of size. One of Kimber's 3" models, however, did use the same or similar trough sight as Colt's N.A. Forget which it was.

Remember, the purpose of a 3" 1911 is NOT to shoot smallish clusters of holes on a paper target at the range.

It's a "street gun" for putting a-holes face down on the pavement .... of course, only "in the gravest extreme" of justified circumstances. ;)

So fancy sights you don't need, certainly not adjustables. Just a down-n-dirty sighting plane, assuming you even get that split-second to raise the gun to eye-level before you have to fire.

It's a quick-draw affair, so keep it simple.
