Need Help Deciding On A New .223 Rifle

the ruger american gets generally good reviews. I'm not sure what your definition of reasonably priced is but it usually runs about the same price as the savage axis or remington 700 ADL. personally I prefer the Ruger M77 but it usually runs the $600-700 range.

there is also the mossberg MVP, bolt action rifle that takes AR15 magazines so it's very handy for quick reloads and high capacity for long training days at the range, but I haven't spent enough trigger time on one to give a personal review.

I have a Tikka 223 lite and it came with a 1-10 twist, I do believe they come in different twists if you look around. Mine shoots sub 1/2 in groups at 100 yds and just over that at 200, havent really shot it further than that off my bench. I know for a fact that Boyds is coming out with laminate stocks for the T3 lite very soon. The reason I know this is they have my T3 and are using it as a pattern for production. I think the thumbhole laminate will make the rifle a real eye pleaser and it may even help to shrink the group size.

I really wish i had not read this but, i have to ask:what do you think the price will be? :D

The boyds are very reasonable, base price for a stock is just 99.00 bucks plus shipping for a thumbhole. Check out their website. http://www.boydsgunstocks.com/[/url... is ready I will post it here for all to see.

Tikkas and Rem's...

Besides the usual black semi-autos, I have and prefer:
Tikka T3 Lite - synthetic stock, 1:10 twist, stainless barrel, Nikon laser rangefinder optic
Remington 700 CDL - walnut, 1:12, blued, Leica optic
The Remington is a bit pricier though both are reasonable in this market. And both are fantastic. The Rem is a more refined and slender design. A slightly longer barrel. The absence of a real magazine reduces it's appeal and I may install an aftermarket DBM so long as I can be sure that it will not mar the stock and it is reversible. With the trigger recall, I have a Jewell that I will be installing.
The Tikka is remarkable in that they have figured out how/where to cut corners and where to do some great machine and design work. Brilliant actually. A great, smooth bolt, excellent trigger and very accurate. I have installed a new DBM that converts the gun to take 5- and 10-round AI mags. For me a great upgrade. BTW as far as I know, the Tikka T3 Lite chambered in .223 is no longer available in 1:8. I could be wrong but is why I chose to purchase the 1:10.

I have a Tikka T3 Lite and a Tikka 595 and both are a pain to single-load at the range, due to the small port. I don't like loading from the magazine at the range, but do so with both rifles.

The Remingtons, including my .223 are very easy to single-load, as are other internal magazine rifles. I don't/won't own a controlled-feed rifle because some tend to be hard to close on a single loaded round. Nothing wrong with it for most folks...just my preference.

Vanguard S2s are also very good-shooting rifles and their weight is welcomed at the range, not as much for hunting.

Hmmmmmm, glanced at replies and didn't notice anyone recommend a Marlin heavy barrel .223. Worth a look and priced reasonably for an accurate rifle.

Marlin heavy barrel .223.

No such thing. They chamber it for 22-250 and .308 but not .223

They are great rifles for the money though. I'd be willing to bet the X7 is on the verge of being discontinued. Remington and Marlin are owned by the same company and the Rem 783 is the X7's replacement.

I just bought a Mossberg MVP chambered in .223/556. I am impressed with the accuracy and dependability along with the fact it will take AR magazines.
