Need for new 7.62 x 54r factory load

I've used the Prvi SP's, not for hunting, but for the brass...
Buying the loaded ammo is only a couple of $$ more than the brass alone, and when I couldn't find brass, it's the next best thing...

Anyway- the bullets from the boxes I purchased were .308 dia., and shot like birdshot out of my rifle. After a frustrating day at the range I pulled several of the bullets and measured them.

My 91/30 needs .311 bullets- and will shoot my Varget handloads with the 174 gr. SMK's at about 1.5 MOA at 225 yards- but the Prvi, and S&B factory ammo as well, aren't worth chambering in my rifle.

Hornady's .312" bullet is nominally for the .303 British. The 7.62 x 54R uses a .311" bullet. Sierra makes a 150 and 180 grain Pro-Hunter SP. Speer makes a .311" 150 SP too.
"...don't see any 7.62x54R loads at all on Hornady's..." They don't load it. Winchester does, but only in an FMJ.

So Hornady has done some limited loading of 54r huh?

Thanks kraig. Again, what i'm thinking, since theyve got an angle on imported steel cases already, is to apply the same theory they are using with the two other combloc loads they do.

steel case, good primer and charge, and an accurate 150 gr or so slug, an SST or A Max would be great

With the MN, there is a lot of variation in the bore diameter. I have yet to run across a .310, but .311 and .312 are quite common, I have even seen some out to .314. It is best to "slug" your barrel and load accordingly.

I've shot three deer, including one pretty nice buck, with an M44 stoked with Wolf 200gr SP. Worked great!
