Quick Reference for you

Here are some pics - This is mine

It currently holds:
1 - WesternField 22 - (far left side wall)
1 - Mossberg 12Guage (far left back wall)
1 - Savage .410 Bolt action (2nd slot from left back wall)
1 - Remington Woodsmaster 740 with 3X9 Bushnell Scope (3rd slot from left back wall)
1 - Remington 700 Bolt action with 3X9 Factory scope (4th slot from left back wall)
1 - Savage 32-20 Bolt action (5th slot from left back wall)
1 - Anschutz 22 Shot Bolt action (7th slot from left back wall)
1 - Crossman Air gun (under 8th slot doesn't reach holder)
1 - Chicago 20 bolt action (under 8th slot doesn't reach holder)
1 - Sears 22 Bolt action (right wall)

There is one open slot that can still be filled and I never have any problems getting any of them in or out. It does come with 4 stan-off's for scope mounted rifles. Notice the desicant bag on the scope stand-offs. Please - no comments about the pictures - I know the .410 and the Anschutz have a bit of rust on them. This was prior to them being brought out of storage and I haven't cleaned them up completely yet.

Other...

I think it's better to keep one's valuables completely out of sight. Also, I don't think any gun safe will suitably protect firearms in an all-out blaze. So I'm buying some USGI steel sealed boxes and hiding them behind a false wall. Once I have the cash then I'll build a very sturdy climate-controlled outbuilding which will also have a false wall. Thieves won't try to steal what they can't see.

I've got the Sentry 5 gun, can't remember the model number....it'll work in as much as it'll keep kids and other prying eyes out. It's bolted down...but 5-10 minutes with a crowbar and you're in. The only reason I have something like this is because I'm in an apartment and not on the ground floor, so the floor can't support a real safe. It's better than nothing, but if you're not restricted by builing limitations like I am...get an honest to goodness gun safe.

Keep an eye out for sales coming up this season. I picked up a 10 gun Stack on for 150.00 at Dicks Sporting Goods two years ago.

Thanks for the photos Savage 32-20.

I am still hung up on that safe for $259 or the Liberty Centurion for $397. I stopped buy Lowes and looked at it. I like the shelving and it does look just a tad better security wise, I don't know if it is worth $150 more.

I hear that I can pick up a change of address packet/package at the USPS and they usually have a 10% Lowes moving coupon in them. Is this true? Do I actually have to give the USPS my address and name or could they just give me the package? Will Lowes want some sort of proof about change of address?

Also bumnote brought a good point up. How much weight can my floor handle? I may put it in my upstairs closet. I assume that it will be a bit over 300lbs when I load it up.

I vote the Liberty. I agree with many that recommended to save and buy a good safe. I had the same frame of mind and didn't want to fork out that much cash for a good safe. Then I totaled the value of my gun collection, coins, jewelery, heirlooms and important papers. The value far exceeded what my insurance will cover, not to mention the irreplaceable.

Then again, you can get the cheap now for some protection and as your valuables grow buy a good safe and use your cheap one to store ammo or whatever.

Also, first rule of buying a safe; buy one twice the size you think you need. I'm glad I read and adhered to that rule. Good luck.

If you have compared it and like the Centurion better for me it would be a matter of "do they have it in stock and i can take it with me" - but you may have different criteria and needs/wants - if they don't have it in-stock or you need to pay a shipping fee then that's something you'd have to take into account. Most of this becomes a personal preference type of thing that only you can decide.

Yes, if you stop by your post office just tell them you need a change of address packet - they don't charge for it and don't ask for any information (at least they didn't ask me) - they include a bunch of "flyer" type things to get discounts and last i knew lowes was one of them.

I bought a Sentry years back (key)

Given enough time, someone could break into it.

However, its going to take a lot of time and work. It also acts as bate so they do not destroy the rest of the house (my wife has a lot of valuable jewelry but with a gun safe that they KNOW has good things in it and easily sold I expect they will concentrate on that.

I bolted it both to the wall stud's and then I rand 4 heavy bolts through the floor and covered them up with plates down below.

It would take me hours to try to cut it out just to lug it out and no one is going to get into it easily in place.

Get the best safe you can afford. Mine is listed 6 guns I think, but holds only 4 long guns, plus various pistols on the top shelf. With the latch setup, its obviously open or its close and you won't miss it that key is not done.

I have attached low cost LED push lens lights for illumination (still working on that but you can glue or screw them depending on where).

I am also worried about being able to bring this up my stairs. I read some reviews and to guys had a very hard time lifting this up a flight of stairs.

Any tips on lifting the safe up a flight of stairs without seriously hurting me or my helper.

I guess I could get 2-3 guys to help me but I don't like a lot of people know my business.

Try running the baseboard up to the cabinet, it'll make it hard to remove if anyone tried to take the whole thing.

Without looking at the pics you posted I would say that any safe or locking cabinet will keep the small children out. The more you spend the more time it buys before it can be penetrated, also buys more fire protection. Over the years I've upgraded several times. Buy the best you can afford is always good advice. Bolt it down and keep it out of sight. I was told that home structures can go 250lbs. per square foot. So calculate the footprint of the one you buy and go from there. I think it sounds a bit high to me but thats what a safe dealer told me. Mine is on concrete so i don't worry about it. You will probably find your needs and budget will allow for an upgrade down the road.

I would go with the centurion. it's the only one that I noticed was fire rated...20 minutes of 1500 degree temperatures is not the greatest protection but I would much rather spend more and rest a little easier than spend less and be screwed in the event of a fire

I went with the Centurion by Liberty. I picked it up today and set everything up. It looks awesome. I am glad I went with it.

I live in Georgia so it is not as humid as Florida but it still is humid frequently.

Walmart and some my local gun store sells those packets of (silica?). Should I buy those or use something else?

Thanks everyone for your help
