I have a Glock 26 that I shoot at the range and occasional carry. I shoot cheap bulk FMJ ammo that I suspect is a little underpowered.( I won't get into my limpwristing at the range story). I want to carry a decent JHP that will positively cycle the light framed Glock. Any Glock owners with some experience in this area, give me some brands you have used successfully.. Thanks.

Best on the market is the Federal HST your choice of pressure and 124 or 147g. I prefer the 124g standard pressure. The next best in my opinion is the Speer Gold Dot in 124g standard pressure or +P. Either of those brands are heavily used by FBI and local law enforcement.

Your welcome. Excellent choice. Can't do better than HST. Its performance is really amazing. I prefer 124g standard pressure myself but that's up to you.

I carry a 26 daily and haven't had an issue with it cycling any ammo yet.

I usually carry hornady 135 +p but just ordered some 124hst to try out. I would be happy with several other offerings as well

HST and Gold Dot standard pressure 124 did excellent. I notice the Gold Dot 124 +P didn't perform as well out of the 3.5 inch barrel they used. Probably because the shorter length didn't allow enough time for the extra pressure to build up the velocity. So recommend standard pressure in your 26.

Do not order or purchase a large amount of any hollow point ammo until you know it works in your gun.

Most modern pistols will work well with any of the HP ammo available from the major ammo manufacturers, but that is not guaranteed.

I would try one box and if it runs one box well, get one or two more and test. If it's good to go, with no problems, stock up.

I recommend a couple boxes be fired of your chosen HP ammo for function check, at minimum. 4-5 boxes is better, and some recommend a few hundred rounds as a minimum.

I know that not everyone can afford that, but a box or two should be doable.

And yes, the 124gr HST are my go to as well, but Gold dots (not the gen 2 version), the Critical defense, PXD1, and others also work well.

I wouldn't worry too much. If HST don't function perfectly on your Glock then something is very wrong with your Glock.

Darkstar888 best is subjective when it comes to most things, including ammo. There are many quality choices available. HST is just one of many.

Puppyface there is wisdom in buying a couple different brands and bullet weights, and seeing what works best for you. I have several that I use based on price and availability. Don't get too caught up in all the hype. When it comes to service calibers, hitting your target is far more important than what brand name ammo you use. Enjoy the process.

The only HP ammo I have used in my Glock was some Remington 115 HP's, probably ran out. Want to try something more up to date, but not into novelty type ammo etc., Noticed that running PMC and using a sloppy grip with my 26 can cause issues, it was a while ago but I think is was a FTF.

Yea. Just go with your plan and get yourself some HST 124g and call it good. The most advanced technology and proven performer.

If you order several boxes take note of their lot numbers. Often they will all be from the same lot, so you can fire as many as you require to be sure of function and accuracy. If different lot numbers you'd want to fire some from each.

For simplicity once I know a lot number is good, I mark the boxes "OK G26" etc.

I use the Hornady 124 XTP-HP for carry...

and reload the bullet for practice and bowling pin shoots.

Check out the late Steve Camp's "Hipowerandhandgund.com " website for some additional information

The round I have carried for a few years. Winchester 147g Ranger T. This is very accurate, it goes deep! Really accurate, recoil is reasonable.

That's a good round for sure. Just not as easy to track down so I don't usually suggest it.

Hard to beat the HST. I carry it in both 124 and 147. When I get my hands on it I like Winchester ranger T quite a bit. Very close between the two, but the HST is MUCH easier to buy and reasonably priced. Can't beat ammo that can be bought vs ammo that is hard to buy. LOL
