need a .17 HMR

Come on man I'm 23 and I know when to walk away. I totally get the appeal for more guns and killer deals based on a younger mans income and what not but....life is too short and a felony would SUCK. Buy the .17 for yourself man sweet guns

how is it a felony if he has a State issued FOID?
Again, that doesn't matter. Something might have happened between the time the FOID was issued and now. It just seems fishy that he refused to take cash for the revolver and is insisting that you purchase his new rifle for him.

Your best bet is to give him the exact amount that the .17 HMR rifle costs in cash, and not be involved in buying a firearm for someone else.

THINK. You told him that you were going to buy his revolver for cash. And he is flat out refusing to do this, and demanding that you buy him a rifle. THINK SOME MORE. Why would someone insist on this instead of just taking cash and buying the rifle himself? The only reason I can think of is that he cannot pass the background check to purchase a new rifle.

If you can't understand why this is not a good idea, I don't know what else to tell you. You've been warned by several people already. It's your life, and if you want to put your freedom and gun rights on the line just to get a good deal on a revolver, then so be it.

? i never said he flat out refused. he would take cash an i was going to give him the $$$ before we go into the gun shop so it isn't on camera i gave them the $$ an he filled out paperwork. we was going to go to the gun shop in a couple weeks to see what they have then wen tax time comes i would give him the cash, he gives me the .44 an we go to the gun shop an get it.

Now I'm really confused.

Are you buying the revolver now? Or are you buying it "come tax time"?

With the rifle, are you buying it for him?

ya i don't see why people say it's illegal an derailing the thread on which i ask if the Browning T-Bolt is a good .17 HMR or should we look at something else.

There was mention in this thread of the CZ452... My dad bought one right about the time 17HMR first became available.

It was the first 17HMR rifle I got to shoot. Very sweet shooter. I spent most of an afternoon in the Alvord desert sitting at a bench with it. It was 105º that day!

That experience is what convinced me I needed a 17HMR rifle one day. The CZ made holes that touched other holes.

Anyway, I could have bought one but the Savage was on sale for a very reasonable price. I don't regret the decision one bit. It's a laser beam.
