neck size cases in ar

As am I.

AR's I load for.

(2) 223/5.56
(1) 6.5 Grendel
(1) 7.62 x 39
(1) 300 BO
(2) 308/7.62

Not one of these required or even hinted that a SB die was needed.

"4Runnerman : I've loaded a few thousand rounds for 4 different AR's and 3 different manufactured chambers . None have I used a small based die on . They have there place for sure , I'm just glad I've not needed one yet ."

I'd say a lot depends on where you get your brass from. I use a lot of brass from unknown sources/firearms and most REQUIRES small base sizing to fit my chambers.

Although not completely unknown . 99% of all my 223/5.56 brass is once fired LC brass . I buy it from my local range where the Navy and Coastguard practice .

I did not even consider my 308 brass . I buy that from my local range as well ( 80% of it is once fired LC ) Never needed the SB die for those either but those are all loaded in my bolt guns .

What I'd ask is : would it matter what brand of dies you use . They all have tolerances , maybe some brands tend to run on the larger size therefore appearing to some they need a SB die . FWIW I use Redding bushing dies and to date have not needed a small base die . Right now I'm loading for two 223 wylde chambers ( both different manufacturers ) and two 5.56 chambers ( both same manufacturer but different then my 223 wylde )
