Nearly empty range today... Ammo rationing

I don't even go to ranges. The good ones here are over-priced, always have been, and I doubt it's gotten any better lately. If I went with another person, I'd end up shelling out $70 just to come through the entrance, plus range/target fees, so before even trying to buy ammo (or heaven forbid, renting guns), I will already be pretty close to the $100 mark. I don't think anything such ranges offer justifies that kind of spending, and certainly not on a regular basis.

I was at my regular range last week and the handgun side was pretty crowded -- they had ammo for sale, but it was very expensive (I always take my own). several of the folks there were newbies showing off their new weapons and violating just about every range rule posted. After a bit of education, things calmed down a bit. Nobody on the rifle side; not sure what hunting season is going on, or not going on ... a month ago rifle shooters were everywhere and handgunners were staying home.

well

Buy your ammo elseware... and enjoy having the range (nearly) to yourself :D

If you buy enough elseware, sell it on the sly at the range (wear dark sun glasses & a trench coat with boxes of ammo inside the flaps, walk up to guys, open your coat and say "hey, fella... wanna buy some ammo?" in your best Italiano/mafia style voice :D

Knob Creek doesn't have all their tables filled on the weekends. I've only been here 6 months, but I suspect they were slammed before the price gouging.

Anyone who has been looking for .380 Auto, the Gander Mountain in Hilliard got a good shipment in yesterday along with a bunch of other calibers: 9mm, 223, 45, 38Special. 2 Box Limit Per Household per day, but at least they have it!

Havent been in 2 month,I dont have much ammo left only 50 rds 380,50 rds 38 and a few hundred 9 mm.I didn't hoard it when everyone else did now I can't shoot every few weeks like I used too because I can't find ammo and I'm not going to shoot up my last bit of stash

The Ammo

Manufacturers have been running 24/7 for months now. They will catch up, because the demand is going to stabilize now that the first 100 days are over and the cities are not in flames. Oh and the zombie hordes from H1NI they never made it to town either. I hear the EMP plasma bursts left the sun two months ago and should reach earth in 7 months, 6 days and 14.35 hours.

Anyway I would be willing to bet that by September there is going to be so much ammunition floating around the shelves will be overflowing and prices will "normalize", although metals are up again slightly.

Just my entitled opinion.

I don't go to the range these days just for fun (like I used to) too expensive. That will change too.

I have a feeling that the worst may be over. I still can't find the ammo that I like to shoot, and all of the Internet bulk suppliers are either on backorder with estimated delay times of 2 - 3 months, or are not accepting orders. But, still, I think we have reached a turning point. I notice that the vast majority of guns listed on Gunbroker these days aren't selling. The exceptions are the "no reserve low start" guns, but everything else just sits there. I've also seen a modest reduction of traffic at my local range. A month ago there'd be a 45 minute wait time to get a lane. Now, there are usually at least a couple of lanes open when I shoot.

I went to Gander Mt. today and was surprised/excited to see they had 380 ammo (Blazer Brass) - in Sherman TX if you are interested. Then I saw the price tag --- $40 per box of 50. So the hording is not just resulting in little ammo, it's driving the prices through the roof.

Thankfully I got dies and some supplies in just before they too ran dry too.
