NCIS Background check numbers for 2013 are out.

As Tom stated, states that have LE issuing CCW permits can forgo NICS checks for purchases. States like my home of FLA has the Dept of Agriculture issuing CCW permits so hence we have to go through the NICS check for purchases. Waiting period is waved for CCW holders or folks trading in a handgun and making a purchase at the same time.

I imagine a lot of free states have "low" numbers because of the smaller populations and the freedom to sell one's property to another in the same state without government interference.

"Here in Missouri, when you pick up a pawned firearm, they run a check on you. I don't knkw if every state is like that. "

Joe, I'm not a FFL, nor a lawyer but I believe a FFL who takes a firearm into their possession (other than repair) must register it in their book. To move it out of their book, they need to run a check. An exception may be some states don't require it if you have a permit to carry.

Here in West Central Florida most LGS will do a new background check for every form 4473 that if completed. That would be a background check for every 5 firearms purchased at one time.

You can do multiple firearms on one form, and one background check for them all at once

Some dealers may PREFER to do seperate forms, but it's not a legal requirement

You are correct you can put 5 firearms on each form 4473. But if your purchase requires multiple 4473 forms they do a background check for each form.

Actually, you put as many as you like. If more than five firearms are involved in the transaction, you just attach pages to the 4473. As long as they're all on the same transaction, only one check is required.

I really like Illinois' numbers.

Right when we got our carry ban ruling in December 2012 checks went way up for several months. They tapered off only to jump up again around October when training classes started.

Me likey.
