Naming Weapons

"Glamdring: Ah, yes, Tolkien, the father of the genre. Wonderful literature! An elvish name for an elvish sword. Every weapon should have a name!"

Ok the above quote is to prove this isn't my idea. Came from another post.

So the question is: Who here has named a weapon, why, and what's the name. My friend as a Glock named "Wall Slayer", for a good reason. I call my Tomcat "'lil b!+ch". Name came from a movie called "Baseketball" Can't remember why I started calling it that. And yes I do refer to it it that fashion.
PS: Please, Pleas,e post here otherwise I'll just think I stepped off the deepend. :)

The Model 66 is named "Betsy." (What can I say? Bought it for the wife before my first deployment after we got back to the states, and that's the name she gave it - said she felt much better having Betsy stay overnight when I was gone...) Been toying with naming the 1911 "Mjöllnir."

I've only named three, all the rest just go by their factory given names.
My Colt .44 I just call "Buddy", my M1A is aptly named "Old Faithful", and my 1919 A4 goes by the name "Babe". :)

I think it must run in the family, my Mom's got all of hers named. Her favorite is "Roscoe", which is her .40 Beretta, and always follows her around.
One of my (in)famous cousins named all of his, and even talked to them regularly.

Not sure. If it was (originally) published about a decade or so ago in serialized format in one of the gun rags, yes. Premise was a gentleman (named Theodore) was visiting friends in Sweden (?) for an IPSC match, went out to practice, and was inadvertently transported back in time by a far-in-the-future graduate student working on his doctoral thesis.

"Mjöllnir. Ja, the original."

My old Ithaca 1811A1 had the name "Ma", a friend had started calling it "Masher" which evolved to "Ma Asher" and then to "Ma." I've never really named anything since then, except when something does not function corrrectly at the range and then it's "You POS."

M1 Garand - "Big Dog"

Soon to be joined by an M1 Carbine. Guess what ITS name will be. :)

The rest just go by their mfr. name, caliber or model designation with no rhyme nor reason therein. For example...

The Remington 552 is just "The .22" (caliber)

The Ruger MKII is "The Ruger" (mfr.)

The Colt Trooper is "The trooper." (model)

My AR is "The AR" but my wife's AR is "The Bushmaster."

Etc, etc.... go figure. ;)

Stainless Springfield 1911-A1: "Carrie" (carry) ;)

Ruger P90: "Ugly"

S&W 686: "Maggie"

Remington 870 Police: "Uncle Buck"

I'm still working on a few others. BTW, does anyone have any good names for a 20" heavy barreled AR?

John

Only one I've ever named was my old Colt Trooper. His name was Max.

One day, I needed $$$ and sold Max. It's the only weapon I've ever sold, and I regret it to this day.

Don S., if you're out there, I want it back. I'll pay more than you gave me.

My wife and I have been known to refer to our Desert Eagle 44Mags as "Da Boomers".

My Mom had a custom 45 1911 type she called her "ThunderBuster"

It does add to the enjoyment of the Hobby to name them.

my G30 is "the brick"
my M590A1 is "MR. Nasty"
my BM dissapator is "the de-skinerator"
my 4" magnaported 44 mag is "thunder"
my Berretta minx 22short is "the wallet"
my 500 pistol grip is "the jack" (I keep it in the trunk.)

My P-32 is "SPIT WAD" Y'all shot spit wads through ya straws, ain't ya?

My P-11 is "Med-Pak" - cause if it should ever happen to print through my shirt (which it won't anyway) and if somebody's stupid enough to ask "what's that buldge," my answer is "it's my medical pak, I need it to stay alive." That'll shut them up.
