NAA Mini Revolvers?

What really surprised me about this particular gun for my wife was that one evening I came upon her reading one of MY gun magazines. Talk about the twilight zone. I asked her what she was reading and she showed me the "cute" gun. Said that she wanted it and that was that. No questions about price, or anything else.

We sold her S&W airweight because she wanted a 92FS to match mine. She likes the way it shoots. But now she likes the NAA and she is wanting the Taurus .357 Titanium also.

So if I have to purchase all of these guns soon I might not be posting here much more because we had to sell the computer to pay for them. :)

The best weapon for self defense is the one you have when the need arises!

To me, the best possible mini grip is to start with the big ugly soft rubber (not plastic) grip that comes with the Black Widow or MiniMaster and "shave it down" by hand to an "oversize bird's head" setup. Pics of mine so modified are here: http://www.ninehundred.com/~equalccw/jimguns.html

That large rubber grip is available real cheap for other Magnum minis. The Mag Minis, Black Widow and MiniMaster all share the same grip frame.

The soft rubber cuts down a lot on that "squirming around" factor.

What's really, REALLY weird is that for some reason, I can shoot the MiniMaster with that grip equally well right-hand (strong) or left hand. If I shoot any other gun off-hand, I get lousy results. So when I finally score CCW, no matter what else I carry, that MM is gonna be my off-hand backup :).

Why mess around with these hard to shoot and unreliable rim fire, novelties. Get a Kel-Tec P-32 and have 8 rounds of center fire reliability, instead of the iffy rim fire rounds. Plus the P-32 holds 8 rounds and only weighs 6.6 ounces empty. Not to mention, far more power than the little .22 rim fire, plus the gun has real sights and is much more user friendly, than the little single action pop guns.

7th, here's the scoop. I've never had CCI .22Magnum rimfire ammo fail to go bang on me, and they make the best .22Mag defensive fodder. I've shot thousands of 'em in three different .22Mag guns, two minirevolvers plus a Ruger Single Six. My MiniMaster can throw five rounds into five inches at 25 yards - there ain't no small semiautos that can even come close.

Now let's talk power levels. I can fling 30grain JHPs at 1,400fps for a muzzle energy of 131ft/lbs. Your P32, assuming similar ballistics to the NAA Guardian .32, can fling a Fiochi 73grain FMJ at 877fps. Well, if we figure that's similar to the 75grain/850fps combination on the chart, we get 120ft/lbs of energy. The CorBon B-Safe 52grain might do better, at around 130ft/lbs.

Now granted, that's with my 4" barrel. A Black Widow with a 2" tube will do about 1300fps with those 30grain jobbies for energy around 113ft/lbs but still, we ain't talking about too big a defecit here. Many of the .32ACP loads are less potent than that.

A standard velocity table is here: http://www.naaminis.com/energy.html

All of NAA's velocity data (independant lab produced) is linked here: http://www.naaminis.com/naatoc.html

Granted, I'm down on firepower with 5 rounds. But a revolver won't jam near as much, especially in a pocket-lint-dense environment, and "limp wristing" is a non-issue.

And I've one enormous advantage: the .22Mag minis that most people (including myself) buy also come with a second cylinder fitted for .22LR. We can do huge amounts of practice in dirt cheap, low recoil fodder and really get used to the gun. Enough so that with practice, the fast first-strike speed of the SA wheelgun comes into play - if you know what you're doing, nothing else gets a shot off as fast coming out of the holster.

There's also a safety that mitigates most of the classic problems a Colt-style SA had.

Overall, these little turkeys are NOT toys. They're damn fine little guns.

2 part message -

First off, the NAA website has some of the cool belt buckle holsters for the 22lr pistols that actually look like belt buckles for cheap! Worth taking a look if you have the lr version.

Secondly, took my new 22lr/magnum combo to the range yesterday. Shot at about 25 yards and don't think I hit the target a single time but it sure was fun, just gotta practice with it to figure out the correct hold and best aiming technique.

BTW - the "live snake" description is perfect, thats just about what it felt like. Just kind of squirmed around, while still being controllable.

I will agree in large part here with Jim and the tactical viability of the .22 mag. I have a NAA .22 mag with the after market rubber grip. I regularly place 5 of 5 shots in a soda can target at 7 paces. The NAA is truly a “go anywhere” firearm with respectable accuracy, firepower and reliability. Far, far better to be armed with one then nothing at all.
