Re wife & gun

The wife does have a CCW. She rarely carries though . Anyway she told the officer that she was actually in the process of putting the .38 into her pocketbook when they spotted the gun. She told me that since she was afraid that these guys might try to assault her she decided to carry it in her bag when she went shopping. I was a little amazed that she stiil was thinking of going shopping instead of leaving and going another day.
Well, I am very glad that it turned out that she was unhurt. Oh yeah, I did ask her that if she was in fear for her life would she have fired and she said yes. She realized that in this case with no actual aggression she could not shoot. She is now reading my old copy of "In the Gravest Extreme" by Ayoob.
I often wonder how many times each day that something like this, (the presence of a gun) averts a crime? Thanks for your replys. PS If she decides to carry I am going to try to impress upon her the importance of having the weapon ON YOUR PERSON!
