My recently cerakoted Ruger SP101 357 magnum

I'm not sure that I would paint a SS gun, but it sure does tone down the advertising stamped into the barrel. I like it!

When I am able to find more .357 Mag or .38 SPL ammo in my area, I will be shooting it more often. I am curious as to how the finish will hold up over time.

So far, I have shot 50 rounds through it, and have no abnormal wear to the new finish. That was all the .357 ammo that I could spare right now:D

One of the best looking SP's I have ever seen!
Now for the big question, how much?
I have a charter arms bulldog I would like to have done.

This one was free, but the normal price is $200 for a complete gun. If I had to pay for this one, I wouldn't have done it.
They did a CZ 75B compact for me, and said that they would give me a free cerakote job if I let them use pics of my CZ for advertising purposes.

It looks awesome. Can you do us a favor and update this thread in about 6 months? If the finish holds up well, I would love to do that to mine as well.

Great work!

Stainless steel guns were developed so that a surface finish is not required.
While it is your gun and it looks fine, I don't understand adding a painted finish that will wear off.

Cerakote is a baked on Ceramic coating

Tough as nails and impervious to just about any kind of liquid. It might not make as much sense on a stainless gun, but it's not likely to wear through in a lifetime.

With that line of logic, all guns should come in stainless because otherwise the finish can and will eventually wear off a blued gun. Personally I prefer stainless, but many of my gun's are are blued/black because I hate the look of two tone stainless guns. Also many Sig models, as well as the M&P line are stainless steel slides with a black finish over them. If you prefer a gun with a blued/black finish, even if the finish wears off the metal underneath is still well protected, what's not to like about that. It also gives you the option of removing the finish and bead blasting the slide if you want a stainless look.

Seriously, I think it looks, "off the charts cool." Really, really, "LA Confidential," for lack of a better phrase...

However, its not something I would have done. I think it would have looked better as original finishing not painting on/over stainless.

It looks, "cool, and, wild, and, covert." It does not look, "my puppy just won 1st place @ the dog show."

Hope that makes sense :-)

I've seen enough plane jane SP101's that I have to say, it's nice to see one that's different. I think that was a good use of your credit with the shop.

Now just make the effort to get a lot of practice with it and see if you can get some wear on that stealthy little rocket launcher.;) .... you'll be glad you did!

I rather like it. I used to have several variations of Sp101s but currently have just two and both of them are Target Grey versions so I am not averse to Sp101s which are different. Actually, I kept the TG models because there was a better market for the standard models. I do like them, though, and I like your Cerakoted gun.
