My Next Handgun

Hey guys! Long time lurker here, finally decided to make a post after 5+ years.

So I have been debating for some time now on what my next handgun will be. I want something full size. This gun will be used for various tasks, including home defense but I probably won't be carrying it much, I use my Glock and S&W for that. My current handguns are Glock 19, S&W M&P 9c, Glock 42, Ruger 22/45 Lite and a Sig Mosquito.

Handguns that I'm considering:

H&K USP9
Springfield TRP Operator (I'm leaning heavily towards this one right now. I find this gun extremely appealing)
FNS
Glock 34 (I've almost ruled this one out. After all its just another Glock, nothing really exciting about it)

I have previously owned a Sig P229 and XDm and ended up selling both, the 229 was too fat for my hands and I wasn't able to shoot it accurately and I personally prefer the Glock over the XDm.

I'm completely open for suggestions if any of you guys have something that you think would be a good option that I haven't thought of

Get an older nice Hi-Power, especially if you won't be carrying it. I think you will like the grip. It is SAO, so you'd have to be ok with that. Also, CZ 75B's are quite nice too.

I have a USP in .40 so I'd vote for the HK, however the springfield youre looking at is a nice gun. Be sure to check out the CZ 75 series too.

I think everyone should own a 1911, so I like that choice. Of course it would mean adding another caliber of ammo to keep in your cache.

If you wanna stick with a caliber you already have and like your striker fired weapons, you might consider the VP9 or the PPQ. The VP9 isn't much off the size of your G19; BUT the PPQ is available in a 5" barrel version and is very sweet.

Something like a CZ75 would be nice... I love both of mine.

The TRP is a nice 1911, so if you are inclined, go for it.

I second the Springfield choice, provided you're OK with adding a 45 ACP to your 9mm collection (but I'm a 1911 lover so I'm somewhat biased).

If you want to stay with 9mm but want a 1911, SA has the Range Officer (full size & compact) & the EMP.

Since you don't need it to carry, I would go with something different. Why not get a revolver? I found that there is just something about a revolver and the slower and more relaxed pace appeals to my old age. I grew up around revolvers in the sticks and almost never saw anything else.

LoL, everything that came to my mind has been suggested.

If you don't have a full-sized 1911 in 45... they are every bit as awesome as everyone says.

High Powers feel good in everyone's hands.

My CZ75 is my favorite 9mm I have ever shot.

My Beretta 92 is my second favorite.

I have all of the above and more. I like them very much. But I LOVE a good revolver. A good medium frame 357 is an absolute joy to shoot - even my CZ75 doesn't feel as good in my hand. 38 special for extremely fun practicing, and full strength 357 to make shock waves you can feel in your stomach and make water jugs blow apart like they were struck by lightning.

Thanks everyone for all the input! I think I've pretty much decided on the TRP... I feel like I need a 1911. So now the hunt begins.

I looked at the Hi-Power and aesthetically it just doesn't do anything for me but I've never held one, that might change my opinion.

CZ 75 or P-09.... You may find the 75 a bit thick with the factory grips on it. But the 09 feels great in the hand.

You may also want to think about the VP9.

Sphinx SDP or the Sphinx SDP Subcompact. I've carried professionally for over 21years. I've carried HK, Sig-Sauer & Glock. I love them all. Great guns! However, when you pick-up a Sphinx and then shoot one there is nothing that even compares to it. I retired my HKP7M13 & the Sphinx is now my primary & back-up weapon. We have tried to get both guns to malfunction to no avail. Took it straight out of the box & qualified with it by shooting a 420 round course. Since then over 5,150 rounds through it. No issues of any kind. Read how it's designed. In Europe these are the choice of competition shooters based on the 3000. Now KRISS/SPHINX has introduced these into the states and entered the market. Accurate, bet your life reliable, Pure Swiss engineering, best materials and is absolutely the Rolls-Royce of handguns. If you are serious about wanting the best for self defense, range gun. Then seriously check these out. Some great YouTube videos on them as well.

Springers are nice 1911s. My old GI is a great shooter:

great choice in the SA TRP.

My first 1911 was a Springfield Loaded and it was a great shooter, with the TRP being a level up I expect you could be happy with it. I hear that SA has great customer service but I never had the need to find out.

Good luck.

Not that I've ever shot one, but what little I know about 1911s tells me that the TRP is an excellent choice.

Good luck on the hunt!
