My new pistol

Kathryn,
When it comes back this time, clean it before you go to the range. Ruger may clean it to work on it, but they may not. BTW it's a good idea to clean a new gun before shooting it.

My 22/45 like my 10/22 seems to jam more often on the bullets with that waxy feeling lubricant. Now I only use bullets that have a clear dry lubricant. It has cut back on the jams. My 10/22's jams are do to those uncleanable 25 rounders. Is it just me or is the Buckmark more tolerable than the MKII?

Kathryn,

I had plenty of jams with all sorts of ammo, found that a dab of white lithium grease (Lubriplate) on the rod inside the spring on top the bolt keeps it going when it is outrageously dirty otherwise.

I also found that keeping the magazines wiped down and only a whisper of oil each century or so is good practice.

With these two practices, I can dirty the MK512 up with hundreds of rounds of the cheap Federal bulk ammo at less than $10 per 550.

I have found that CCI Mini Mags seem to shoot best of the less expensive stuff. The Mini Mags will shoot almost 3" lower at 25 (?) yards than the Federal, so adjust for that when setting your sights.
