I think it's a horrible deal and obviously a rotten gun and - look at all the scratches and stuff - extra numbers hammered into the side of it - just a junker.
But, since I feel for you, I'd be glad to give you your $200.00 - plus fifty and pay all shipping and transfer fees to get it to me.
All kidding aside - what a deal! The 64 heavy barrel is one of my favorites. But, my wife liked it so much she took it in the divorce.
I'm always on the lookout for one of these and you made a steal of a deal.
I just swapped grips on this, I took off the Pachymayer Presentation grips and put on a set of Pachymayer American Legend grips on it. Can't wait to shoot it later this week.
I picked up two Model 64s several years ago - Austrian border patrol or some such heritage - for $200 each. You got a rockin' deal, they are really solid revolvers, and will take any .38 special loads you can throw at them.
In the city where I live, we've got a pretty H-U-G-E gun retailer and they are the biggest for miles & miles. So when there's a local or semi-local agency that elects to clear out duty weapons... these guys win the bid process. They have sold crates upon crates of formerly issued Model 10's, 64's and 65's. The Model 10's were priced at $250, and near the exhaustion of that particular load, they dropped the priced to $230, IIRC.
Also, if I recall, the Model 64's were priced around $300 and the 65's at $400.
Pretty neat because they'd usually have seven or eight in the display case and you could handle each one to find the "pick of the litter." If you were on good terms with the salesman, or if he was in a good mood and it was a slow day, goodness knows how many he'd be willing to fish out of the back for you to interview.
Of course... any of these purchased would generate 6.25% sales tax and the wonderful 4473.
Oh yeah... $200 plus some ammo... Your seller doesn't know the market. Phenomenal buy that you got.
For a gun that lasts a long time, it's a great deal! One of these days I'll come across some of the finds I read about, until then all I can do is be jealous and say congrats.
Those 64's seem to have great triggers. I bought mine last year for a bit more than you paid for yours and its my sweetest shooting handgun by a margin.
