My new Mauser,,,
And my 7,777th post.
Not that I believe in numerology,,,
Or any of the superstitious notions of life,,,
But it is a bit like the Seventh Son thing on steroids.
It is a good number to introduce my new (to me) rifle,,,
She's an ES340B Mauser single-shot in.22 LR.
I think I'll name her Sieben,,,
A nod to the post number,,,
And Jeri Ryan's character.
I apologize for the crappy image,,,
I was too lazy to setup the decent lights.
Anyways, I am as happy as a clam with her,,,
Only $245.00 on a GunBroker auction.
Shipping cost is the only thing bad I have to say about the deal,,,
The seller charged me $50.00 which I thought was high,,,
But they did send it in a brand new Plano rifle case.
That actually was a plus to me,,,
As I already use the exact same case.
But the rifle herself is simply elegant,,,
Her finish is remarkably intact,,,
And the blue us very deep.
The wood on the other hand has been altered,,,
You can see where someone defined the hand grip a bit,,,
And they made a fairly decent attempt at defining a faux cheek piece.
The tip of the stock had split at the swivel hole,,,
But whoever glued it back did a nice job,,,
He also pinned the crack with a dowel.
If the faux cheek piece ever really bothers me,,,
I'll just make a leather stock sleeve to cover it up.
Everything else is in good shape,,,
There are a few small dings in the wood,,,
But I haven't found any pits or dings in the metal.
She feels great when you shoulder her,,,
My eye just drops in line with those big ramp sights.
This is an old school German rifle,,,
Made when a single-shot .22 was taken seriously.
I'm going to the range tomorrow,,,
I'll certainly let you all know how she shoots.
