My new knuckle buster

I am stuck at work so a cell phone pic is all I can manage right now but here is a pic of my newest acquisition. It is an American Derringer in .410/.45colt that I picked up a couple days ago. It is in immaculate condition. There is not a knick or scratch on it. I can't wait to see how it feels shooting .410 out of it. Too bad I never get a day of these days to shoot.

Anyone else have one of these? What kind of recoil or accuracy should I expect? I know my Bond Derringer is pretty accurate and easy to shoot but it is a bit beefier.

Nice looking derringer, PBP...

... and long time, no see on TFL.

I don't consider myself a wuss, but frankly I've never had any desire to try a derringer in .410/.45LC. It doesn't look like fun, to me, but then I also don't like striking aluminum bats against solid objects. But do let us know how it shoots, and how it feels.

Cheers,

M

PBP - if you would have waited until the end of the month you could have had more company returning from the dead!

Welcome back!

Once you get a day off, try it out and then let us know just how she shoots!

Don't know about one in .45LC, but I've shot the same in .32 auto. I'd trust it to hit a man sized target from 10' or less, but that's about it. On the other hand, it could be that I just can't shoot the darned things. It took a chunk of meat out of my index finger that made the bite from a GI 1911 with no beavertail look wimpy. I gave up after six rounds.

Yours looks significantly larger, so it may perform much better. Let us know how it goes!

A friend has one of those and offered to let me shoot it.
I looked at him and asked "is this going to ruin our friendship?"
He grinned and said "nah, it's not bad".

Well............ It wasn't bad at all. We only shot .45LC out of it but really it just wasn't bad at all for the 6 shots I put through it. :)

Missed ya around here PBP. Nice little derringer, I've never shot one myself so I can't comment on it. I've thought about one many times just to keep in the glove box. Once you shoot it I'd like to see how it compares to your Bond Arms.

Somebody brought one of those into deer camp. We put in some of the 000 buckshot loads and tried to hit a rusted 55 gallon drum. Those loads have only 3 pellets in them. At anything more than about a dozen steps, you couldn't count on even hitting the drum. Less than a dozen steps and we'd usually get at least 2 to hit. However, none of the rounds even came close to penetrating the drum.

Dayum! PBP even your cell phone pics look good!
So what was your lighting set up for that phone pic?

Oh, welcome back! And she is beautifull!
Gonna shoot her?

On Labor day I went shooting with some friends of mine.

One is a veteran policeman and the other was his son in law a husky guy in the police academy.

Both were intimidated by my Bond .45.

The officers slim and slinky 90 pound daughter wasn't afraid. She shot it and hit what she aimed at out to 40 feet or so easily. Albeit a few days later she did admit that her palm was sore between thumb and forefinger...which I gotta admit, mine was too, LOL....

This mere slip of a girl could handle the might Bond .45 long colt. If you can't, you are a woose.
One of my buddies who is about 6'4 and around 300 pounds was so scared of it he couldn't pull the trigger. He claimed it was froze!

This girl was about 5,1 and maybe 95 pounds, by the way.
And very pretty.

Just speculating...

... but is it possible the derringer actually fit the small girl's hand better than it fit the hands of the large men?

Fit makes a huge difference in terms of perceived recoil.

About 15 years ago I bought an American Derringer and really fell in love with its looks and its craftmanship. But, most of all, with the idea of it. It was in 38/357 and, of course, I just had to try it in both calibers. That turned out to be a mistake as it were.

I am no recoil wuss but the experience of firing the 357 in that tiny gun was something I will never forget. It really was painful! I tried some 38 ammo in it and, while that never equaled the 357 experience, it kept me from ever firing that gun again.

I wish I still had it but I was foolish, stupid, and intimidated. Wish I still had it just for its aesthetics. Great gun just not a shooter for me.

Hated my 9mm Cowboy Defender and unloaded it as fast as I could. It's fun as a novelty, but unless the barrel is pressed against the bad guy, they're not much use ... sold it at least two years ago and last time I looked, it was still in my dealer's used gun case ...
