Marlin 336 30-30. Picked this up yesterday for $400 with case and Redfield fixed scope. Used, but condition is like new. I had a Nikon Prostaff 3-9x40 that I put on it. This is my first lever action and I think I'm hooked!

Fine rifle. I had one in .30-30 years ago and foolishly traded it away. My son has one in .35 Remington with which he's taken a lot of deer.

There were three types of ammo's that I bought, and not much available  Wallyworld nothing, except a lot of .270.

Hornady 140gr lever revolution
Fusion 150gr
Remington 150gr Hog Hammer with Barnes TSX

My neighbor told me this morning that my set up is "over" scoped with the 3-9x40? I wouldn't think so?

Nice gun & good deal! Are there any more?? :)

A 3x9 being too much scope is "old thinking". With tired old eyes like mine, its nice to study things at 9x occasionally.

...bug

I think what your neighbor was saying , is that a big honkin 3-9 scope detracts from the handiness of your little Carbine . It makes the gun heavier than it needs to be too , while making it no more effective . I'd be happy to take that 2 3/4 X redfield off your hands , at a fair price !

It definitely makes it a tad heavy, and just doesn't look quite at home on there. Should I consider a 1-4x or 2-7x?

3-9 is the upper end if you are hunting close quarters, I did a while but felt that I lost the target to much if the animals are running and I would reload and fire a second shot. (but I am using a bolt 308) maybe it works better with a lever with lesser kick

I now have qr mounts and put on a reddot if it is close. I want magnification for the longer shots thou, it can be done without but I don't hunt to survive so I skip on that risk

I like the 336..but I would rather have the 2 3/4 power Redfield on it....Those are really good scopes....I had one once and wish I had it back....It's perfect for that setup....

I really have to agree. After seeing how much lighter my rifle is with it, and how much better it looks (classic)... Redfield it is! I have a friend selling me a Marlin medium DNZ mount for a better cheekweld.

mitranoc...I like that look..and those little scopes are perfect for a carbine....The one I had was on a Ruger 44 carbine....

Good move on the redfield. I bought a 2 3/4 power some where back around the later '70's. Still on a older h&r 44 mag single shot used for thick florida hardwood hammicks Sent it off before redfield turned belly up some years ago to be gone thru and cleaned up. Oh nice marlin too.

One of my buddy's just picked up a 336 in 35, and now he is looking for the same Redfield. I couldn't be any happier with my purchase :D

That's a beautiful collection you have! I've wanted one for quite awhile, and can see how they're addicting. Now I just need to put a sling on it. Going to sight it in this weekend.
