My name is Vanguard.45, and I am a Gun-aholic

Ladies and Gentlemen, I am here today to confess to you my addiction that I might finally come to some sort of crossroads in my life and avoid future damage to relationships with both my wife and my bank account.

My addiction started back in 1997 with the purchase of my first handgun- a Walther P99. Initially, I saw a gun rag in Wal-Mart which had a picture of a Vektor CP-1 on the cover. I thought I wanted that pistol, but after seeing the Walther in the magazine and then holding one at the dealer, I was hooked.

The road has been a long and winding one, and typically I would sell what I had to buy what I wanted. Often, I would end up buying the same model of guns multiple times only to sell them once again to fund another purchase. The road to date has looked like this:

Walther P99 9mm
Walther P99 2000 Commemorative Edition 9mm
Springfield Trophy Match Long Slide 1911 45ACP
Walther P99 9mm
Walther P99 2000 Commemorative Edition 9mm
Remington 700 PSS (.308)
Springfield TRP Custom Made in the Custom Shop by Dave Williams 45ACP
Custom built .338 Lapua Magnum Rifle from Virgin Valley Custom Guns
Browning Hi-Power 9mm
Beretta 92FS 9mm
Walther P5 Compact 9mm
Springfield Ultra Compact 45ACP
Heckler & Koch USP Fullsize Stainless 45ACP
Beretta 92FS 9mm
Browning Hi-Power 9mm
GLOCK 22 .40S&W
Ruger Vaquero in 45ACP/ 45LC
GLOCK 34 9mm
Colt Series 70 1911-A1 45ACP
Rock River Arms LAR-15 .223
Sig Sauer P225 9mm
Colt WWI 1911 Re-Issue in Carbonia Blue 45ACP
Beretta 92FS 9mm (x2)
Springfield XDM .40S&W
Beretta 950 Jetfire .25ACP
Smith & Wesson M&P 9mm
Marlin 1894 Cowboy 45LC
Ruger Vaquero 45ACP/ 45LC
GLOCK 19 9mm (x2)
Ruger LCR .38 Special
Springfield Trophy Match Longslide 45ACP

Today, I own only two- a GLOCK 19 (for the wife) and the Springfield Trophy Match Longslide. Both are fine weapons and do their job if I am willing and able to do mine.

I hope by revealing my illness to the world, I will in some ways be revealing it to myself. I am an addict and must strive daily to ignore the gun store sirens luring me to sell one of my known treasures in the hopes that some future treasure might finally silence their song.

Thank you for taking the time. Hopefully my story can help someone out there avoid the dangers of this horrible addiction.

Welcome to the club. The coffee's not great but there's donuts. Not sure why we decided to hold gun-aholic meetings at the local range, but here we are.

Anyone else need to shed some guilt? We're all friends here, and no one will judge you. We all have bought High Points and Jennings at one time or another.

Investing in precious metals. One day your wife (and your bank manager) will be very proud of you.

As far as I can remember, I've owned 68 firearms... though honestly I may be forgetting some. Recently I've cut my collection down to a half dozen and if anything it's only going to down from there, not up. I came to the realization that I didn't need dozens of guns and that it was much more enjoyable and efficient to focus on a select few.

All those guns and you only have 3 revolvers??? Shockingly disappointing. Hope you never get the urge for a few Colt Pythons!

I hear ya. Been there done that and I'm sure you're not alone here on TFL. Personally, I don't see why anyone needs more than 10 long guns and 10 handguns, but lots of people always want the latest and greatest. The fact is however, not that much really changes over the years. They all still go bang. Look no further than the 1911.

YEA I was a gun-aholic at one time .Then I had a HEART ATTACK in 1988. Glad I had them to sell it PAID THE BILLS.

Be careful - my therapist says that talking out an addiction makes it go away.

If that happens, what would you do with the time/mooney

You need my help!!!
Cheapshooter's rule of gun ownership #1: NEVER sell or trade ANYTHING!
This rule was learned by many deals and many regrets.

i'll just keep buying them and hording them away. one day they'll be my retirement. and the boy might get a couple. but probably not.

Vanguard.45 having worked in a gun store I can understand. I see people who are always broke because they're buying guns, people who have no plans for retirement or say they'll "invest in guns" instead of planning for the future... etc etc.

I also see plenty of people who find a way to justify every gun purchase like they really need another... then when unexpected bills come along they don't have the money to pay them.

I'm glad you broke yourself of this!

I have only sold 2 guns in my life, because I desperately needed the money. One was a 6 inch blued 586 S&W, and the other was a 7 1/2 inch blued and dovetailed Redhawk. I miss them both, and neither is available new any more:mad:. I will never sell another gun, if I can help it. Even the ones I am not 100% crazy about, I still take them out to the range. I feel it makes me a better shooter to shoot many different guns, because I really have to concentrate to shoot some of them well.

So, I too, am a gun-a-holic, but a hoarding gun-a-holic. I must use the term hoarding loosely here, because so far, I only have 14 guns. That is if you don't count the 4 air rifles, and the air pistol.:D

The Silence of the Guns...

That is sad.......

Im 20 about to be 21 and I already have 3 shotguns 2 rifles and 2 assualt rifles and on my 21st (may 12th) Ill be recieving a STI Trojan5.0 and a Kimber 10mm Target II. They will be offically in my name and not in my dads.

This disease is VERY dangerous and has set in at a very young age. I hope that they never find a cure for this and if so I will not be going to rehab.
