My mossberg 500a

a sling is needed in the event i need to go for my pistol and move around.

So your shotgun is going to be banging about the walls and the funiture as you stealthily move about your home.

Also, what is with that heat shield? I would think a home defense sceanrio will be all over long before the heat shield would serve any purpose.

Never underestimate the mindset/skillset of a bad guy!

If you don't manage to take a guy like me out with your pistol... that slung gun on yer back is going to be in my grip and I will crank it tight hoping you bought the really strong swivel set.

If you feel proficient enuff with the handgun, why waste your time with the bulky heavy boatpaddle/boomstick?

If you feel you suck so bad with the shotgun that 9 rounds won't handle 8 intruders (first target gets 2 CoM out of habit) then maybe it needs kept under lock and key and just use the hand gun...

You defend your abode how you feel is best.

My gun has the traditional stock to maximize effective use. It has nothing added that a bad guy could get a good grip on.

Not only can and does a sling snag on anything at the most inopportune time, It can get in your own way in a hands on defensive situation. When I switch to left hand hold and shove the barrel along side my head, I don't need anything hindering the grip transition...

But as said... You do it how you think is best... I had the doo-dads at one time or other.,... As each was proven useless at best or a risk at worst, I took them off until the gun is now naked as a jaybird and very effective in my hands.

I think alot of gents are jealous it doesnt belong to you. Also, a sling is needed in the event i need to go for my pistol and move around

Now it sounds like you are going on the offensive - that action can land you in serious trouble - if you need more than the rounds your shotgun can hold, you need to realize that life is not Call of Duty and long shootouts are the fantasy of Hollywood and video game makers.

Form follows function, not the other way around - in short, practice K.I.S.S., you'll find the gun much easier to handle and your ability to use it more proficient

Jealous? Me?

Heck,no. I've shot lots of Mossbergs, even owned a 500 long ago. Good gun, but I prefer the various 870s I have.

More importantly, through those and varied agency 870s over the decades, I've shot at least 50K rounds and maybe twice that.

I wasn't counting.

I instructed, shot demos, qualified, competed, (HOA at a couple 3 gun meets), hunted and even shot rats at the dump.

Yes,I'm good, though far from perfect. And I got that way by shooting lots of ammo in lots of ways at lots of things.

Don't get me wrong. If all that stuff helps you direct the shot and/or improves comfort while so doing, more power to it.

But the first thing anyone should buy for a new gun of any type is ammo.

Lots of it.

Then, you have a better idea of what your shotgun needs and what's just bling....

No jealousy here.

I have a Mossy 18.5 blued that has no pimp junk on it.

It shoots perfectly, handles wonderfully, and does exactly what I need it to do.

Simple is always better.

That is your opinion that simple is better.
