My LR-308 project.

hanging weight off the barrel

It would appear to have a free floated handgaurd under the metal box.

Nice stainless bull barrel under there, but there is not enough ventualtion in that box and all you are going to do is warp the barrel with all that heat retention.

Go back to the machine shop and start drilling.
Jim

You need a fan in there, or vent it on the bottom half. You have most of the heat going straight up into and infrount of your scope, good luck on long range shooting too much mirage.

Oh yes, more trimming and redesigning to come.

One of my trips to range this weekend is to gauge some heat readings.

The interesting thing is the total inches by vent cuts are equal to the amount of space from a normally exposed bull barrel on this model.

But that is what testing is for.

Why a 6 inch sun shade? a 3 inch one would do the same. Get that scope up off the shroud. 2 half inch risers would save your scope from being ruined.

Just thrown on for dramatic effect.

Its actually a 4" and 2" screwed on to each other.

The scope was just tossed on, once again for a quick photo, it doesn't actually touch the shroud.

Here is a better picture:

I still don't get it.

I've only seen "weight" used in an application to reduce felt recoil to the shooter. Nothing to do with accuracy.

Is that your intended purpose?

No, it will not increase accuracy.

It is more of a target locking system.

Imagine a .308 firing like a weak .22 and being able to place one bullet after another in the same bullseye.

Just a fun application - not meant for combat or anything. I wouldn't over analyze it too much. I'm one guy, not a team of highly paid engineers at a weapons plant.

You could use it as a form of training though. Exercise with it and then your real rifle will feel like it weighs 1lb. Kind of like those people who attach weights to their arms/legs/body for endurance training. :p

Not trying to rain on your parade, but I cant see you ever getting any real return for your effort. A lead sled might have been cheaper...........lol
