My last gun show for a time

Well, I just got back from a gun show here and
now I wish I had my $8 dollars admission back :D

Nothing new or exciting..same ole same ole..but
higher prices..

Guy showed me a Ruger p95 for $400 and I can get
one new for $300 etc

Another guy showed me a beat up Walther p22 for
$300 but, told me he had a new one in stock for
$320 or so.. ok..

If I had taken any money with me "which I knew was
best not too" I might have purchased a Armscore
.38 special for a hundred bucks..it was in good shape.

I think I'm done with gunshows for a time. Oh yeah, I
did get to play with Kel-Tecs new PMR 30 This gun felt
very plastic and cheap to me. Just first thing that popped
into my mind when I held it.

Wanted to take pictures but, unfortunately no cameras
allowed.

It's always a waste of time.
Its been that way around here for years. I dont even bother unless my dad insists on dragging me off to one, and Im getting better at resisting.

Theres one show at the Ag Hall in Allentown that has tables that have the same indian wars stuff on them (year after year) since I first started going there back in the 80's.

Was the Kel-Tec effected by the recall? I would hate to imagine buying a gun them having to immediately send it back for service. (This is why I never buy things during the first production year.)

I quite going to gunshows a couple years ago. Nothing but overpriced junk. IMHO gunbroker and other auction sites have pretty much killed the good used gun deals at the shows. Meanwhile, new guns can be had at a little over dealer costs from other websites than usually just drop-ship from the distributors. LGS have to stay very competitive with prices, good service or supplement their sales by doing alot of FFL transfers for people.

I came away from my last gun show wondering if the guys there had ever heard of gunbroker. I couldn't believe how overprice everything was.

I plan on going to the one at the Cow Palace in SF in Sept. Why? Not because I hope to find killer deals or rarities or really interesting items. No, I'll go to stock up on primers and p*** off the antis who flock there to protest. :D

Maybe 5 or 6 months ago I started thinking about purchasing another gun, and I went around visiting gun shops. I have to admit, I like guns, they're more than "just a tool" for me, I really enjoy shooting, I admire some models and think they're like artwork (H&K P7M8, some Browning Hi-Powers, some S&W revolvers), but whatever pleasure I experience looking at and handling guns - there are some people who must experience much more strongly, it's like they get high in the gun store. It's like they're addicts. I stopped in a gun shop / gun range, I did some window shopping for a while, there was a guy in there just coon-handlin guns (great phrase I learned here on this forum), they had a used G34 there that I had to look at since I had just bought one (felt great about getting mine for $65.00 cheaper - plus I have a decent Sotelo kit in mine and the trigger on theirs was awful) I spend about two hours on the range and I come out and this guy has moved about 15 feet down the counter and he's still coon handlin the guns on after another. He stops to call his wife and he's like "Hi honey - I just wanted to let you know I'll be home in about an hour, I'm looking at guns". I went there last week and he was there again. I'm thinking "He must have already handled every gun in the store last week.

I think gun shows attract those kinds of gun nuts, the guys who have it bad and are more than willing to pay 5 bucks to get their fix. They go there hoping to see the most exotic and rare firearms, but even if that doesn't happen they still get to touch and smell a lot of guns..

Do they they really protest in front of the Cow Palace? It's been years since I've been there. As I remember that is one area of San Mateo County where you really wanted to have a gun with you.

I really love those Bay Area liberals, they feel free to walk over anyone they don't agree with, but don't ever think about asking them to follow the rule of law or civilized behavior. The Marin county Audi liberals are almost as bad.

There are lots of examples of liberals being so liberal that they eventually end up advocating for the restriction of civil liberties.

So called "hate speech", is an example. The don't mind flushing the 1st Amendment down the toilet if it can prevent hurting the feelings of a gay/lesbian/transgendered/queer person.

They've done the smae thing with religion, they've created the same issues with so called "animal rights".

The re[publicans used to be painted as "grumpy old men" and were accused of the vicious ultra-conservative nagry radio talk. But there are lots of examples of how nasty the liberal can get - including a recent example of a college professor who said of the republic student group "f-you republicans"

It doesn't surprise me that a liberal who won't eat a steak because it's cruel to the animal wouldn't think twice about breaking a man's nose or cracking his skull because they're so ****** about guns.

Gun shows around here are the same. Everyone thinks they will find a deal. I've found a few.

Mostly I just go for brass, bullets, old mil-surp parts/accessories, and occassionally will find a deal on a gun. I have only bought one gun at a gun show, a Ruger Mark III, and it was a good buy.

Honestly, everything seemed to me to be high-priced as well. For you gun-show old timers, what's the etiquette for making an offer? Do you consider everything negotiable? Even the reloading gear? Ammo?

EVERYTHING is negotiable, (well, except the admission price)

To those who wank about the prices - then offer them something different. If I am selling and I can get someone to pay a higher impulse price - good for me, bad for him - called capitalism

There's no such thing as overpriced or gouging as the buyer ultimately sets the selling price

Gun shows, RV shows, boat /fishing shows, all the same. Waste of time and money unless you have nothing better to do. Been there and done that. I did get a good deal on a free heavy duty plastic bag to carry all their free high priced literature though!

Granted some are a waste of time. You can think of it this way if we ALL stop going to the shows they very well may go by the wayside. That would just suit the anti-gun community to NO END. I have purchased 1 handgun at a local show in 6 years. Only reason I made the purchase is he is the only dealer that I have seen carrying the Uberti replicas and I was looking for a open top in 38 spl. Most other purchases are for cleaning supplies and if needed primers and powder. I think that human nature as it is all would complain that there are no longer any gun shows to attend if we all stopped going and the shows disappeared.

this wouldn't of ben the gun show in Summersville, WV would it?

cause they had a few P95s there for $400, one was beat to hell

i saw a Walther for $300 as well

a matching set of Walther PK380 and P22 on sale for $1,000 when there was another local guy selling the same set for around $660 i believe

worst gun show i've ever been to

I used to love to go to gun shows and look at the guns that I'd never see on a LGS rack. Sometimes I went to buy cheap bulk components/supplies or hard-to-find items. I learned quite a bit there. Things have changed, or maybe I have. I haven't been able to talk myself into one for years. For one thing, I refuse to leave my gun in the car because gun shows in the D/FW area are not in the best parts of town. I think it's silly to prohibit concealed firearms at a gunshow. I understand LCD thinking but I'll leave before I'm treated like the LCD on an issue like this. I like Cabela's policy, I'll do my gun and supply shopping there if the LGS doesn't have what I need. They have pretty stuff to look at there and they don't charge admission.:D

There are regular gun shows in Des Moines. The larger one is held in the fairgrounds. I go to that one to pick up supplies, and the occasional good deal. It's also fun to see some rare guns that arguably belong in a museum.

The shows aren't always about guns- you can also get supplies, collectible items, out of print books, mil-surplus clothes, bags, and so on. It can also be a way to look at guns that your local LGS might not have. I just wish that these events had some kind of "traveling range" where one could shoot the guns that were for sale.....but there's probably all kinds of legal issues preventing that from happening.

Just went to one in Dothan couple a weeks ago.

Lots of Tacti-cool stuff- most of which was overpriced.
Very little hunting stuff.
I couldn't really see the prices on any of the guns because of all the people looking, handeling, talking and not buying anything. I heard the term 'Spec Ops' like 16 times and heard a dozen referances to video games.

I did learned that steel cased 7.62X39 FMJS would shoot through a car and were therefore worth more, $2.00 more a box.

Also I threw up a little in my mouth when I saw these people's table
www.ZombieTacticalStore.com
(I guess if it gets more people interested in guns it's ok)

I did buy a sausage biscuit and a Diet Pepsi while I was there.

CA gun shows are a joke most of the time, unless you are looking for old guns perhaps. I only go when i need to restock ammo for the ones not worth reloading(7.62x39). Other than that I don't find many deals.
