My gun is too pretty to shoot!

Its not that I hate shooting my safe queens. I hate cleaning them because I want to be oh-so-careful and thorough. So they end up not being shot much because I like them pristine for posting pics on the Internet (sorry...not at home right now to do so!)

Most of those are Smith revolvers. I shoot almost everything else I own, but some more than others.

I am not that way. Guns are tools for enjoyment and whatever else one desires to use them for. I don't get attached to my guns. I save attachments for friends and family.

It does appear you are not the only one, however.

Regards,
Jerry

Nope--I shoot them all but take extra care with my non CCW or Trap guns. My CCW pieces as well as my Trap guns are going to show some wear over time, but my other pieces I just range shoot I try and keep mint like.

But like everyone else, there are a lot of different opinions and to each their own as the saying goes is cool with me.

-Cheers:)

Hmmm...

The same issue pops up for curios/relics. I have a 1943 Rem Rand 1911 in good shape that I bought several years ago. I recently rediscovered it in the back of the safe and considered shooting it but the guys over at 1911forums suggested not to.

What the heck do you do with something like this? It's really completely useless to me unless I sell it. I would say with new guns like your FS92, shoot 'em; let someone less in 60 years decide if it is a collectable.

I recently noticed a few limited edition (1 of 250) SIG P210s on Gunbroker, I thought to myself if I bought one of those I would shoot the sh!t out of it.

Some people think their Guns are to pretty to shoot.
Some people think their guns are to ugly to shoot.

Some people think they are to pretty to shoot guns.

If I have a really pretty gun that I want to shoot , I just dress really nice:D

So, you have a nice gun that is in the back of your vault. Some guys tell you not to shoot it. Now it become useless to you. That is not logical. Shoot the gun. :D

I have one handgun out of my collection that doesn't get much shooting time. A S&W 13-2 and still looks beautiful. My reason is a little different. It's for collector value,I know 13-2's aren't worth much. This one belonged to my deceased father,I keep it nice for sentimental reasons. I have only shot it twice in 6 years which is a whopping total of about maybe 50 rounds. I hear alot of complaints about the model 13's cracking so i just try not to shoot it much.

I personally do not buy any with the intention of sitting on them for resale. I buy them to shoot. If someone else wants to do so it's their money.

I have a pristine S&W Model 28 and a nickel 27 5 inch...but I shoot em. However I'm looking at a generic Ruger GP100 for the hairy magnum loads. Just don't want to stress my babies..even though they will take ANY sane load. Also my cherry S&W 65 3 inch doesn't get too many magnums anymore. And the Remington Rand USGI 45 just sits around now...

I think if inflation keeps spiraling skywards at the current rate, we will all be "collectors" in that it will be too expensive to take them out of the safe, buy ammo, drive to the range and SHOOT!

I'll do us all a favor and save the political rant for the proper forum.

The same issue pops up for curios/relics.

Actually, no it doesn't.

C&R guns are of a limited supply and do dry up. Many C&R firearms have significant historical and collector's value and it makes a lot of sense to preserve them. And when the supply does dry up, the collector's value skyrockets.

The Beretta 92 Inox has been in production for 21 years, and is being made by the thousands to this very day. There is currently no historical or collector's value for these mass produced firearms, and there isn't really a good reason to preserve one when factory fresh models will be readily available in large numbers for the foreseeable future. As far as pistols go, these factors seem to make such a firearm a poor investment.

you guys should tell me where you get all this money from. maybe ill catch some of it when i get old. cause i can't afford to have 3 of the same weapon just because. :o

Practicing what I preach:

These are two "pretty" guns I shot over the weekend. The first is a Dan Wesson CBOB with some new shoes (made by Sarge43 at www.thefinergrain.com). The second is a Brown Centennial. OK, I'll admit it's just an excuse to post a couple of pics but what the heck.

KyJim,

Love the eye-candy! Good looking pair indeed (haven't uttered those words in a gun forum before...).

-Cheers

I have owned a few that were too pretty to shoot. I sold them when I realized that I have no use for anything like that.

When I first started shooting I would clean each gun to white glove standards after each range session. One day I realize that not wanting to do this was keeping me from shooting these guns. Now I only clean guns when they start "acting up". I do tend to add lube after every session however.
