I always thought Shiner Bock was an in joke amomgst TFL old timers, but today I was in a store and saw a truck driver unloading several cases of Shiner Bock. I was astounded. Tomorrow I will pick up a six pack and give it a "range test."

Good for you!
Somewhere in the heart of Texas, Dennis is smiling tonight... :)

Oh jeez, I hope it's better than "Rolling Rock"! Many years ago I was at an LFI training session and Mas let slip he was partial to this stuff. Bruce and I were at a loss...never even heard of it. We went out and scoured East El Lay and finally found a case. Urp! Truly lousy cheap beer. Oh well. I am still here, alive and whole, in no small part due to lessons learned from LFI and others, so hats off to those who teach...and the beer(!?!) they drink. Stay safe.

never was a beer drinker till a couple of years ago...[[I'm turning 34 in a couple of weeks to give you an idea]] Started drinking Red Dog...not too bad. Never tried SB but I've drank some interesting beer...one I 'fondly' remember is Rattlesnake beer from somewhere between S.A. and Austin....made from rotten rattlers I b'leeve. ~YYYEEEECCCHHHH!!!~

Got a buddy in Fl. sent me in to get some beer a few years ago...we're both legal age but he was afraid he was too tanked [[guy looks drunk even when stone sober and he'd had a couple]] He wanted the cheapest I could find...went in and found some like $2.99 a case...he was pissed. Was Hamm's beer ;)

Have to try Shiner bock...seen it around but never did try... :)

Hmmm... Rattlesnake is DEFINITELY some NASTY stuff...LOL I havent tried Shiner, though...at least not yet. As for Hamm's..I used to get sips from my Dad, many many moons ago (was born in WI) and have had it since then...I never thought it was bad...

Better then Rolling Rock, Thats a Pennsylvanian Institution from Latrobe I was weaned on that stuff :D The 6oz. green pony bottles with the horse head and secret number can be found in the Smithonian ;) Brewed from the babbling brooks in Latrobe Pa. That stuff is so good its called the Heineken of the East coast :D
I'm so insulted by this show of Brewery Insensitivity  I'm so upset I can't even finish my Molson :(

Now I've GOT to go find some Shiner! Never had it and I've drank a lot of beers.

Worst beer, I mean the absolute worst, on the planet is undoubtedly Buckhorn. Brewed by Ranier (which is itself cheap crappy beer), this stuff is like the bottom-of-the-barrel stuff. Raunchy almost beyond belief.

Shiner is good stuff. Former coworker of mine introduced me to it. Her son is a cop in Austin or San Antonio, whichever one is close to the brewery.

Hey Loknload,

When I was growing up in the Harrisburg area we could buy a case of Wretched Rot for $5 and get change back! It was TRULY a scut beer!

Then, some years ago, the boys in Latrobe got really smart on how to market the swill. Now it's all big with the puffy pansy crowd in DC. The morons don't know that the "babbling brooks" of old Latrobe have been open sewers for years... :D

Chances are he knows how to use it.

Hardball,
 You doubted the word of a Texan?
 You doubted the existence of Shiner Bock?

(squinty-eyed look, slow drawl) You ain't from around here, are ya?

By any chance, you from New York City? (Git a rope!)

Or worse yet! Kalifornya? eh?
Naw, let me take that back. (snif!) I wouldn't want to accuse NO man o' being a Feinsteiner!

Scouted high and low here -- can't find Shiner Bock anywhere!

If I get to the US of A next year, I gotta try some :D

Worst beer I ever drank was that Dutch stuff Grolsch.

"Any one like a slice of Grolsch?"

I will say that haivng a Shiner in the motel room makes training trips to Kansas City bearable ;)

WARNING!!! Never, I repeat, never venture to Latrobe PA. to view the babbling brook. I did once, and haven't had a Rock in 20 years. Unless they changed things around since then, there was this giant sewer drain,,,,,,,UGH!

When you Texans are in Atlanta, know that The Tap Room in Peachtree Center (right downtown, in the convention hotel district) has Shiner on tap. Also 40-50 other brews.

It was my first place to try Shiner, after reading about it here. Very serviceable brew. Works for me!

Y'know, I'd never heard of SB until I started frequenting TFL. Then one day, I notice that my local grocery store carried it (I'm in Columbia, SC) so I decided to try it (had been drinking Killian's Irish Red fermented corn beverage.) WHOA, NELLIE!!! BEER!!! HONEST TO GOD BEER!!!

Many cases later, I know the truth; I have seen the light! Praise the gods of fermentation; SHINER BOCK rules!!! (Hey, it gives the only good hangover I've ever had. :)) If the only 2 places that sell it happen to be out, then I have to content myself with Heineken 'till the next truck comes in. Keep them trucks headed to SC, guys, and thanks, Texas, for sending SB our way!

Hey Mike, If you thought Rolling Rock was bad
Did you ever do any Schmidt's out Phiadelphia? Had to be as bad if not worse then RR. Could not stand neither.
I think the best thing coming out of PA. is Yuengling, Brewed and Bottled in Coal Country :D Pottsville Pa. I just love the Black and Tan ;) I think they are still suppose to be the oldest operating brewery in the country.
Since my brother is an over the road trucker I've had him keep an eye out for this Shiner stuff and so far he has been unable to locate.
Well anyway you guys that have it,Drink one for me :D I'm sure that won't be a hard request ;)

Yuengling is the best, but i wouldn't say it's the best to come out of PA, since you can't get it outside of PA :( Living in Ohio, I can't get any except when my friend's dad (a beer distributor in PA) brings some...

Yuengling would take Shiner and kick it arounf the ring :)

Dennis, I was as incredulous as you were.

Next thing they'll start doubting we all own horses and oil wells.

Too bad they're no longer brewing Frio...that was a nice local secret.
