My First Pistol! :D

Mr. Marauder (or Mr. Mosin, whichever you prefer :))
Your posts bring back memories of my first hand gun. It was the RG model 66, which was a single action six shooter .22 lr. I was 15 at the time.( I turn 56 today) I blew through a ton of ammo with that thing. Of course I had to replace about 5 trigger springs, the hammer pin that actuates the cylinder stop, and the cylinder due to wear. I learned a lot about repairing my own guns with that thing, as well as how to deal with warranty issues with the importer. (They were still being imported waay back then)

Thank you for your posts.

You articulate well for 14 yrs old.

It's my pleasure. I always enjoy bringing back memories for people.

Thanks for the compliment. I take pride in my writing and vocabulary.

Do yourself a favor though. Unless you absolutely hate it for some reason never sell it. That first cheap gun is never going to be worth as much to someone else as it will be to you once your old enough you can't quite focus on the front sight. Really, if you sell or trade it the hundred dollars or so you get will end up being the worst hundred and something dollars you ever handled.

The absolute best advise of all the posts!!!
Some day that cheap P.O.S. gun will be the best loved in your collection.
Congratulations, and enjoy.

BTW, don't take the criticism of what you call a particular gun serious. Handheld firearms of all types have been called "pistols" for centuries!. Long before the internet, and the elitist "gun snob" internet geniuses were even born. Just like the interchangeable term of clip, and magazine as pointed out in a great article in the latest American Rifleman, everybody knows exactly what is meant by either, and there was no confusion before the internet, and the self proclaimed "experts" it spawned. :D:D:D

Not this again,,,

I can't resist,,,
Believe me I tried.

The song "Frog went a-courtin'" was written in the early 1600's.

Frog went a courtin' and he did ride hmm, hmm. Frog went a-courtin' and he did ride. A sword and a pistol by his side hmm, hmm.

By Russ Chastain
Definition: A pistol is a handgun - but not all handguns are pistols.
The defining factor that makes a handgun a pistol is a chamber that is integral with the barrel.

Chamber: The portion of the "action" that holds the cartridge ready for firing.

Unless I am seriously mistaken,,,
1600's flintlock or matchlock pistols didn't have chambers.

But the most salient quote on the subject is:

BTW, don't take the criticism of what you call a particular gun serious. Handheld firearms of all types have been called "pistols" for centuries!. In other words,,,
Who cares?

On another note,,,

The absolute best advise of all the posts!!!

I bought my Rohm back in the mid 60's,,,
I packed it away and stored several boxes in my sisters attic when I enlisted in the USAF.

It was only recently that I found it,,,
I had completely forgotten it even existed,,,
I was absolutely thrilled to find my first ever handgun.

I need to take a picture of the shadow box it's in,,,
I've mounted it with a 45 RPM record of the song Saturday Night Special.

So even though I would have recommended anything other than a Rohm as your first pistol,,,
Hang on to it forever just so you can show it off when you are an old fart like us.

I envy you

I wish I had an heirloom from my ancestor. That is awesome. Now put it away. You can buy a modern gun for a couple of hundred bucks. It will be safer, hopefully in an effective caliber.
