Yep. I carried my Ds for a couple years as my backup (in a Galco ankle holster). That was when I was assignned to Investigations. I've been back on patrol for a few years and I now carry my S&W Model 49 as my BUG, but the Colt is a great little revolver.

I've been a detective fan most of my life and have collected and shot them for years. My favorite gun of all time.
I still have several that AREN'T in my collection but should be. Like a late model with shrouded barrel in .32 N.P. and an early (late 20's) gun.

That S&W mod10 with 3" barrel was issued to police women and I think they had round butts. That's the guns, not the girls.
LOL! This one was a re-import from a police department in Australia and has a square butt. I got it right after Bud's first started selling the Model 10 police trade-ins. The three inch guns went pretty fast. It's in pretty decent shape for what it is but it's still a police trade-in.

Well I finally got out to the range this past weekend. The DS shot nice, I seemed to be pulling my shots to the right. Didn't have that with my S&W M10 that I shot that day. I chalk that up to a different trigger, and I was able to dial it in after a few cylinders.

I did have a problem with light strikes anywhere between 1 and 3 rounds, but not every cylinder full. So I'm guessing that it needs a either a good internal cleaning, and new main spring or both. I'm going to get the Kuhnhausen book before I even touch it though.

Good move on the Kuhnhausen book. It's a treasure of information about the D frame colts. If you're getting light strikes there is a good possibility that someone who didn't know what they were doing tried to bend the mainspring to lighten trigger pull. If so you may be able to rebend it but will have to take it a little at a time trial and error to get it back to specs. I've been able to correct three of mine in this way. It would save the cost and hassle of acquiring and fitting a new spring. In ANY event the Kuhnhausen Book will help you.

Congratulations for joining the club. I too have and cherish a Detective Special. My first experience with the piece was as a Military Policeman. The Detective Special was issued for plain clothes assignments at my Korea duty station. I recently bought a 1971 edition for my personal use and as a walk down memory lane. It still gets some occasional competition and carry time. :)
