My Budget For a New 9mm Is Upto $400

I will second the Kahr. Buy it, put 200 rounds through it, and you will love it. Another good buy is the Browning BDM which is the size of a High-Power but a nice pistol. If you can hold out even longer then there is an obvious choice. What is it? A Browning High-Power. Regards, Richard.

CZ-75.

I too went through the same decision making process. My friends tried to convince me that I wanted a Beretta 92, however I personally knew that I wanted a CZ. I was lucky enough to find a 1984 Bauska import in like new condition for the same price as a new one. I certainly don't regret my decision. New or old, CZ's are damn fine guns for the money. Standard capacity factory mags are still avalible for less than $50 too. As you might have noticed, the CZ is the most often recomended gun in this thread.

What about the IMI Baby Eagle? I LOVE the feel of those guns in my hands, and I've seen them go for $399 at gun shows...

You won't go wrong with the Ruger P95.
DO NOT let the price fool you. It is a quality gun. Tough as nails, reliable as the IRS at tax time, eats anything and everything, and standard capacity mags are still plentyful and cheap!!! :) :) :)

My advice would be to hang in there a little
longer, and put some more spondoulous in
the "cookie jar". A NIB Sig P226 or P228
isn't htat far away!!!

My vote goes easily for the CZ 75. I see the similar EAA Witness in your short list, the CZ 75 is similar (the original and the best!! ...EAA is a copy). If you don't mind its size and weight you can't go wrong with it.

Guys,

Thanks for the replies.

I'm going to handle the CZ75 decocker version, always thought the original was just a liiiitle too big for a 9mm. Best advice seems to be sit tight and hang in there for the Cougar, it gets me hot whenever I'm near one (even the wife can't manage that anymore ;) )- sound advice and well taken,

My best to you all

Mike H

Mike,

You'll like the CZ, but you're so close to your Cougar. Hold off and get what you want.

So many pistols, so little money.

I own the decocker CZ-75BD and it is a really wonderful gun, but bigger than it needs to be. On the other hand, it looks to me like it will last forever (with a slightly stronger recoil spring installed ;)). And it is really easy to shoot well, in part because of the excellent stock sights, and the size and heft.

If you can only get one, get the one you really want. But you won't be dissapointed with the CZ. Good shooting.

I have seen ads for the new CZ75PCR compact, that was only introduced this year. Now that looks like a really nice piece.

Compact barrel length, full size grip/mag, de-cocker, full drop safeties - but I can't find anyone who has even seen one or get a price. It would be on my list otherwise,

Regards,

Mike H

Tecolote,

Yeah, I live in the US of A, I should have said the foreign owners politics. But I think you know what I meant.

The problem with the CZ-75 compact is that 13rd mags are really dificult to find, from what I understand.

Smooth move on the Beretta Mike you won't be sorry :)

Mike,

Hold out for that Beretta since it's what you really want. I've fired both the .40 and .45 Cougar's and they are NICE! :)

You can get a factory refurbished Glock 19 with a pair of hi-cap mags from TargetMaster in Penn for $395. Then you could be one of thos "emotional" owners we all talk about!

Next best buy would be a Kahr E9 for $325.

I would try the Baby Eagle before deciding. They can be had well below the $400 dollar mark and are a real pleasure to hold and shoot.
