I love my Mosins, but I love my black powders better!! 
I have the PH that I bought new in '73. Also my first BP rifle and I still have and shoot it. The blade front and "V" rear sight just didn't work for me so I did this without sacrificing something that couldn't be reversed. Although I don't intend to.
Ground the front blade down to the block. Drilled and tapped for a post which can be easily be replaced with a different height. Channeled the block to accept a hood.
Squared the rear "V" to accept the post.
Shortly thereafter, a friend and myself shot a 5 shot, 2 1/2" group at 75 yards. I shot first and we alternated. We did not attempt to improve on it.
