Muzzlebrakes....?

my .30-'06 & others

My good friend Barry produces SPLENDID muzzle brakes (that work). The only kind that DO work properly are made FOR the firearm it's mounted on - if they come out of a box, you have to mess with shims, and the ports aren't aligned. The type with a multitude of holes around the entire surface are WORTHLESS - about 8% effective; Vertical "vents" provide MUCH MORE surface area, and his produce about a 48% reduction in recoil (my lightweight Ruger M77 MKII in .30-'06 feels like a .243!). You DO NOT want holes on the bottom, only the TOP - keeps the muzzle down. One question that does occasionally come up - do they make the rifle LOUDER? No, not to the shooter, but if you're next to 'em at the range, yeah.

We put one on a Ruger No. 1 in .416 Rigby, and it's now almost pleasant - before, it was akin to coastal artillery.

Want to develop a good flinch?

Sit next to someone shooting a .338 Win Mag at the range with a ported barrel. Every time he shoots I can guarantee you'll flinch. The good part about it is your rifle's recoil won't bother you unless you're still shaking from his shot.
