With a budget of $800 you'll have no problem finding some nice rifles to add to your collection.

+1 CMP Garand...can't go wrong.

BUT...for that kind of money, you can taste a few pieces of pie. And, hit some different history periods of milsurp service. You have a bolt...albeit, not a US Springield or a Mauser... same league, kind of. Maybe get an AK74 clone, cheapest modern round to shoot. Maybe an AK47 or an SKS for another semi-modern, fairly cheap round to shoot. For $800 you can get 2 out of those 3 easy. Or you can go the M16/M4 route, entry level; and still have a fairly cheap modern round to shoot. If you're just punchin paper, I'd go the 2/3 route. If you want to shoot CMP shoots or just to have an awsomely historical piece (for our country), a load of fun and learning, I'd go the Garand. I've shot plenty of Garands...don't own one...yet. I'm gonna go to a CMP center someday and get one that calls to me.

A Finnish M39 or a Swiss K31 would be near the top of my list. Both are pretty available at around $250 and are both very accurate.

I've got a few...take a look through the list and see if one strikes your fancy

Ammo for milsurps is only expensive if you don't reload.

If you do reload, you can shoot pretty much any of them for the same low cost.

Last time I checked my reloaded cost on 7.5 Swiss for the K-31, it was about $7 per box of 20. Thats paying full retail for small quantities of components. Hard core reloaders can go down a ways from that.

For some of them, certainly. For others, it is widely available as surplus, and as cheap as, or cheaper than reloading.

Just spend 2 minutes cleaning after you shoot the corrosive stuff and you will be fine.

Holy milsurp collection, iamkris!

You do like em old guns do you?

I believe you meant Rock Island Arsenal, rather than Armory for the 1903 though.

iamkris,

You have a very nice collection. Do you shoot them all? What's your favorite among bolt-action milsurp?

Thanks for the suggestion guys, Personally I only like buying a rifle if I've seen it personally, just a fancy, I have seen whats on aim-surplus and they are actualy only 30 mins from me so I'd really only order from them. I'd make an exception for a recommended online dealer (you guys like the cmp garands). But for Msurp rifles that are a mixed bag, I def like to look at them.

As for a cruio and relic license, I've thought about it, but its one of those things I'm too busy to get into right now (schooling and life stuff). There's regular gun shows around here so I go and look around for what I want.

It is a downloadable form, 20 minutes time and $30.

I have an original No.5 Mk.1. It's very light and handy. I use .303 180gr softpoints on whitetail and it always takes them down fast. I haven't had the wandering zero yet.

im a big fan of mil surp rifles, i only have three but they all are great rifles. I have a paratrooper sks and two mosin nagant's. both have great barrels, one has a stock that is a bit beat up but the other one's stock is flawless. i doubt it saw anything other than the inside of a storage depot befor being imported. they are all fine rifles that shoot great. at some point i would like a enfield no. 4 rifle for the collection, they are beautiful rifles imo.
