MSN-Anti-Gun Pro-UN

Yea that's my point. :p Overreaction, dude. If the headline had been "Crazy paranoid rednecks with shotguns demand that peaceful loving UN stop trying to take their weapons of mass destruction." we'd be in perfect agreement.

As it stands the headline is pretty accurate. Maybe you think the word "conspiracy" is too strong but going by the wording of the letters and the rest of the site the NRA set up it certainly looks like they're accusing the UN of a conspiracy.

And they were still wrong. There is no meeting on July 4th.

Im not over reacting. Infact, as an Ann Coulter fan I have read some comments about her on TFL that are alot worse than what stated about the elite media in this thread. I just roll with it, no fits.

Some of you guys just flip thru the air when someone challanges the liberal media. No need to dicredit me.

Im trying to find a poll that USA TODAY took several years back. They polled their own readers, and asked if you trust the print in newspapers in general.
Only 29% chose yes.

I stand by my claim about MSNs headline, and ask that you open your mind a bit and consider my claim. Compare my headline to theirs, it's a short, simple, yet sharp example. The elite media has been practicing their vodoo journalisim for decades, and they are masters of deception.

A quote from the article in question:

"At the same time, 1 million people around the world — symbolizing the number of people killed by guns since the last U.N. small arms conference in 2001 — have signed a petition backing stronger controls on arms deals in a campaign organized by Oxfam International, Amnesty International and the International Action Network on Small Arms."

Here is the web site of the International Action Network on Small Arms:

http://www.iansa.org/index.htm

I urge everyone to go to that site and see if he or she can discern what the group's agenda is.

Gun owners accuse U.N. of July 4 conspiracy

I am no fan of the MSM and I do not find that biased / slanted. I think the issue here is that anything that casts X political group in a negative light, whether from poorly thought out actions of X or media bias against X will only be seen as a deliberate and vile attack on X by the supporters of X. Any and all suggestions that X may have brought it on themselves will be reviled by the more non-critical thinking supporters of X. You can see this in action with, perhaps, Cindy Sheehan in the news and the way her fans react to her being portrayed.

How else can we explain how leftists consider the media to be biased and right wing at the same time that lovers of freedom see it as biased and left wing?

“I myself have received over 100,000 letters from the U.S. public, criticizing me personally, saying, ‘You are having this conference on the 4th of July, you are not going to get our guns on that day,’” said Prasad Kariyawasam, Sri Lanka’s U.N. ambassador.

“That is a total misconception as far as we are concerned,” Kariyawasam told reporters ahead of the two-week meeting opening on Monday.

ahh yes the leaflets in the last nra magazine i sent two:p (let them know that we will not give up our rights so easily)

The UN conference on small arms is hardly new. As much personal digging as I could do led me to think we were being asked to over-react. They had no designs on the US BOR.

OTOH, I don't like the guest list. Anywhere Peters shows up gives me the creeps. Rather like if Sarah and Tom turned up representing NGOs at a conference on tulips, I'd be just a touch nervous.

And it's not like the NRA won't cast around for invented crisis when things are going, if not well, at least better than average. We're down about a million members since immediately post AWB passage, at a wild guess. If VPC and Brady are both on the ropes, and IANSA just took it in the teeth in Brazil, what you gonna do?

I'm willing to be convinced otherwise, but at this point, the checkbook isn't coming out. Nor am I mailing anything where I can't see the relevance. If, OTOH, I was asked to express my displeasure at the guest list...

If the MSM says were reacting to phantoms, I'm not sure they're not right - even a blind pig finds an acorn every once in a while.

This is so not like me. :D

I've been away from the forums for a while: does this mean I'm agreeing with a liberal? Quick, somebody, take a picture!

"I'm willing to be convinced otherwise, but at this point, the checkbook isn't coming out. "

Yes, let's all just relax. Everything's fine. Nothing to see here.
