MSAR?

on a slightly unrelated note...

It looks like MSAR filed for Chapter 11 On 7/13.

Look at the second to last (bottom) item on the page above.

I know they have been battling lawsuits and financial problems for some time.

It's also worth note that they recently posted on their website under the News section that they have stopped taking in returns for repairs saying the company is reorganizing.

Just something to consider if you're thinking about buying one.

Thanks for that link Loose Holster Dan. I just ordered one. I shot my MSAR a week ago and while I was hitting what I was aiming at I felt that I was just able to do it that well and that the gun would be so much easier to shoot with a lighter trigger. I have the optics handle on mine and I can really do a number with those optics. Question. Obviously the trigger will be lighter. Will it seem more crisp?

Hehe, you're pics of the evolution of your MSAR kinda cracked me up.
I've been doing the optics roulette on my DR200 lately too.

Nice set-up

for those of you who have one of these and do not have a trigger mod yet, i strongly recommend this guy - http://www.kmaerospace.com/MSAR.html

It arrived and I installed it yesterday. The whole install took less than five minutes. Couldn't be easier. That is $40 very well spent. The difference with the trigger is huge. I chose the middle five pound one ounce setting. I was tempted to put put the original piece back in just to get another comparison, but I left well enough be.

Question. I see from the web site that on the lightest setting, four pounds five ounces, one must release the trigger and depend upon the bolt slamming to reset the trigger. Does anyone have any experience with this lightest setting? Is the reset issue significant in actual use? Is there a significant difference in trigger pull quality between the lightest and middle setting, and if so is it enough to justify the anomaly with the reset?

I haven't used that model but the Neu trigger is all you need. It's just a small piece of sheet metal that is easily installed in the trigger pack. Covers up a plastic engagement point and replaces it with a metal one. Works like a charm without potentially making the gun less reliable.

Now that they are making trigger packs that take AR-15 parts... that's the most desirable way to go but you are talking $200 rather than $25!

a little range report on the trigger i installed

i just made it up to the range this weekend to try out the new trigger. i had it set on the medium setting. i encountered many FTFs even on the middle setting. by many, i mean 4-5 out of 40. that's way too high. when i put the round back in, it fired fine. i'm thinking about going up to the heaviest setting.

oh yeah, and if anyone decides to mount a 45 deg red dot on theirs, mount in on the left not the right. i had a couple of casings hit me in the face when i was sighting it in. also, sighting in a rifle on a 45 deg angle is hard! if at all possible, rotate the gun so that the red dot is horizontal to the floor. otherwise, you have to move vertically and horizontally even if you just need adjustment in one direction.

i encountered many FTFs even on the middle setting.

Thanks for the head's up. Keep us posted how the heaviest setting works out for you. When I test mine I will be sure to bring the original with me as it would be an easy swap at the range.

The FTF issue sort of puzzles me. I'm wondering what would cause that part to result in a light primer strike.

QUE, hopefully you are still watching this thread, otherwise i will pm you. the trigger has begun to fail to reset on the middle setting now too. no more ftf, but the trigger reset problem has happened twice per mag. have you been having trouble?

i know this is old, but in case anyone finds this in a search and is curious how the trigger mod has held up, i thought i should update.

since the trip where i had trigger reset failures, i haven't had a single failure due to the trigger mod. i did break an extractor using steel case ammo, but thanks to a replacement from ratworx, i'm back up and running. i actually bought a second stg-556 last week. can't wait to get it out.
