Posted this on THR but thought it might as well come over here too ........

Collected the latest hand cannon today ... weakened (severely :p ) and have gotten the BFR in 45-70 Govt. This is one beaut' hunk of metal.

Comes complete with a Weaver rail, screws etc ... but out the box, here he is .....

Then got to fitting mount rail and added the Bushnell HoloSight I had been keeping for the purpose ...... all I need to do now is make time to sneak off to the range.

Notice .. this gun is a guy .. nothing effeminate here! :D

Got some Rem JHP's to kick off with but now also have some Starline brass and some LaserCast 405 grainers .... just need to get press cranked up and load first batch of experimental rounds ... starting at the easy end! Don't plan to push things too much too soon.

Look at how easy it was to solve the rifle handgun ammo question. You will enjoy how pleasant these are to shoot. I use an Uncle Mikes size 11 holster and a Hunter leather products belt. The belt lets you carry twenty five in the loops. Still looking for a good leather holster but finding one to fit the barrel length and the cylinder length is a problem. Have fun. :D

The jealousy is all mine.

But until I get one of my own, I will shoot vicariously through you, P95! Don't keep us in suspense, get out to the range posthaste! :D

Awesome, Chris!!!

That cylinder looks big... big enough to use .410 shotshells?

Anyway, please let us know how you like it. I bet that makes a muzzleflash that would rival the "raging lunatic." :D

Wes ... a .410 shell will drop in .. and even sit in the recess but .... that case is 0.045 whereas 45-70 case is 0.485 . so too slack a fit... MR does not recommend it!!! I know some things can take the shotshells .... and forget now which but i think there is a cylinder option for the BFR which allows for this.

Just checked ... the 45LC has an option .. including provision of a choke insert too.

I would say so....but then, I've never loaded a revolver cylinder w/ anything 4/100ths of an inch (thickness of a blade of grass) across, either... :p

Nice gun. All you need now is someone to carry it around for you & call you "Sahib"... ;)

Clunk!!!

Hi Chris,

That was the sound of my jaw dropping and hitting the floor. You may have solved the search for a portable, light anti armor device. I'm sure that would go through most APCs, the long way.

What a handsome piece. I'll bet I could find a reason to come north when you try it out.

Congratulations!

Scarface

Seeker ...... ''Sahib'' .... hmmm sounds good ..... but I think I'll settle for ''The Boss'' :D

Hey Buck!! :) Good to see ya joined. Hope your projects going well. If you did happen this way - you could for sure come shoot the fella .. I am hoping to get to range this week for first session ..... but still have to load some test homeloads too ... so much to do - so little time! :p

Quartus .. ''tripod'' ??? ........ Nah ... as someone else pointed out .... this is a crew served piece ..... some other sucked does the support .. I just aim and fire! :D

Gordo .. true .410's will be ''slack'' in a chamber .... but in this cyl they are LOOSE!!! No - MR do not suggest use of these ... you need the appropriate options that they can supply for those with .45LC guns. Mind you ... very much doubt that a .410 fired in this would really do much damage!

Larry - thx for the kind thought in the link! :D :D

Emergency room .. hehe ... hope not!! In fact more I read, the more I am expecting the beast to feel little different that .44 mag's in my 629 .... stiff perhaps but .... not that bad. Almost for sure, easier on me than the hot Hornady loads thru my .454!!

I'll post range report later on but soon I hope. Must remember to take chrono (and set it up out of reach of the muzzle blast!). :p

Like a 44? Not likely...BFR stands for Broken ph(F)ilanges and wRist.

Slow shove instead of a sharp bang is more manageable, eh? I remember a PH telling me not to worry about the rhino because they don't hit that hard, more of a long shove than a violent, sharp bang... Just before he bounced the Range Rover over onto its roof. PH was pretty quiet on the walk back to the camp. :D

Beautiful isn't it??? Especially with that Holosight up top. I prefer open sights on my handguns though. So I'm not gonna put any optics on mine. I want one of the .410 ones now. :D

Walter45Auto

Walter ...... From a ''purist'' POV I'd leave it open sights but ..... I find these ol' eyes less than ideal now for irons ..... tho I can manage.

In fact I don't think the HoloSight is too pretty, compared with a classic scope ...... but I ran the first Range Test today and find it very pleasant, tho I have still not really finished the finer aspects of sighting.

Just have to bite the bullet - load some ammo -- and take it out again!! :p

Chris,

What a great looking billet of stainless Steele! :D

Makes me want to run right out and buy one, but I don't think my aging bones could take that kind of recoil for long. :(

We have similar interests I see (R/C models). What do you fly?

Bill
