Moving to California...

I'm a nurse at the Sutter Coast hospital. The move is a favor for some family friends, house sitting their place and animals while they travel for a year.

The house and land are gorgeous, but the general area attracts crime as his property borders Federal and state land which criminals often "repurpose" for farming.. Last year the landowner next door noticed a huge drop in water pressure from his well. Went up on the mountain where his tank was and found a shoddy attempt at hidden piping running his water off property. Police found a large grow operation just off his property on park land, a week later all the homeowners windows got shot out, luckily he was golfing at the time!

In that case, I would put the firearms that are not CA friendly in storage.

When you are done you will still have them. I also wouldn't change my DRL or car registration.

I know that CA wants you to change at no more than 6 months, but seeing how this is a temporary thing, you should be OK.

My daughter who got her license in UT then moved to CA has finally after several years got a CA license but her car is still registered in UT. This is for insurance reasons and my name is on the car.

So back to your firearms, you can expect prices to go up and the small storage fee IMHO would be worth it. If you get one in Bookings they will be somewhat close.

Just some food for thought. Good luck and you are a good guy for house sitting.

I know this post is well-meaning, but it seems like you're advising the OP to break several different laws. In most states you're required by law to update your car registration and drivers license soon after you move into the state. And it sounds to me like keeping cars registered out of state for insurance reasons could be considered insurance fraud; he would be lying to the insurance company about where he lives in order to save money on rates.

My daughter's car has to be registered here to be on the insurance plan. Not fraud, just what is required by the insurance company. If my memory serves me CA allows 6 months.

Since my daughter is a student she us in line with the law. The OP is going to be living in CA temporarily. Maybe a check into it is in line. I know 6 months is legal.

Anyway the point was to store his weapons that are not CA friendly.

IMHO the prices going up when he is in CA would be worth it.

That is more to the point of the OPs post. I did digress into another topic, sorry.

A few years ago I took my CCW course. My instructor gave an example of how different California and Nevada gun laws are.

He had.a revolver on the table. Be placed a sheet of paper on it. At first the paper covered the whole gun except about an inch of the muzzle. He said that in Nevada that gun would be considered open as far as.carry or transportation was concerned.

He then moved the paper so that it only covered a couple of inches of the barrel. In California that would be called a.concealed weapon.

Moving to California requires a careful study of their laws.
