Moving from IL to TX. Need advise on getting my firearms down to TX

When I moved from NV to FL, the moving company moved a wardrobe box that had $25,000 worth of guns inside - it was insured extra, I taped every seam with tape and made marks across so I could tell if it had been opened, and the manifest listed everyone of them - I packed the box and sealed it, and they all came through with no issues.

If the company won't take them, ship them to yourself at your new address

Welcome to Texas. Only possible bad thing is depending on where you are moving to, the drive from the Texas border to your new home can be longer than the drive from your old home to the Texas border. Best of luck on your move.

Congratulations on escaping from the People's Republik of Illinois! I think you'll find the politics and laws of Texas to be much more acceptable and gun friendly than here in the Land of Lincoln. It must be an incredibly cleansing feeling knowing you are waving bye bye to Quinn, Daley, Madigan, Durbin, and the other dirtbags who are a drag on our personal freedoms. Best to you and your family!

Hello all,

So we made the decision to make the drive down. There's some other valuable stuff we just don't feel comfortable having other people move for us. We will make extended stops in Little Rock and Dallas to visit some friends. I thought I previously mentioned where we were moving. Austin will be our final stop.

Oh, and yes, we are very glad to be leaving King Daley's Chicago (I currently live in a suburb of Chicago).

From what I can tell, TX is as gun owner friendly as my home state of FL.:) Unless some unforeseen disaster were to occur, we intend to make TX our permanent home.

I appreciate the responses.

I drove all my stuff down from MD when I moved to FL.

It must have been pretty funny to see one of those luggage carts loaded up with rifle cases being pushed through the hotel. :D

Glad to hear you will drive them down. I have mixed results with moving companies. Most of the time it has come down to the van driver. I would rather deal with the driver than some office manager. Some of my moves have gone well and in some moves, firearms have disappeared.

I never mean what I say

I have made the move to and from Texas...well El Paso, that's really Mexico.

And of course I am not suggestion anything...but you know those heavy wardrobe boxes packed with hanging clothes that are tall enough for even long gun cases.....forget I said anything.;)

BTW, from a gun rights standpoint, from Ill to Texas, is kinda like from Hell to Heaven.:D

(Waving at the new homeboy.) (I grew up in El Paso.) ;)

I recommend against trying to sneak your guns onto the moving van, simply because you're the one taking the risk of damage or loss if you do. The moving company will disclaim all liability for guns or any valuables that they were not told about. If you're really unlucky, the guys that they hire might look through your stuff hoping to find valuables that you didn't tell the company about that they can steal. :/ IMHO that's a REALLY bad idea.

The good idea, although it will take a few days, is to drive down with your guns and other valuables (expensive jewelry, laptop computers, real art, etc.) in the car with you instead of with the movers. It's less hassle, and a lot safer.

Of course, Austin IS an island of blue in a sea of red...................

We have that here - it's called Gainesville...........

Funny, I went to college in a town called Gainesville, FL. :D Yup, I'm a dirty Gator :p

Yea, I do realize Austin is a blue dot in a sea of red. That doesn't really bother me, in fact, hopefully it can provide some balance somehow. I'm more of a libertarian type anyway, so it's hard for me to find complete comfort with either R's or D's. Though I do tend to agree more often with Republican types than Democrat types.

Anyway, as for bringing in the valuables, I certainly will take in my Xbox at night. I'll leave the wife in the car though. :p:p

Good thing she won't read this.....:D
