Move Over Perazzi

Guys, this is a shotgun made to undersell the Mossberg Silver Reserve. That sets my junk detector twitching right there, although I'll reserve final judgement until I see one.

And yes they do have a "tactical" version, the HS12:

I believe that is a version of the lovely Maverick O/U, but not the one offered by Big 5 with 28" vented barrels, the one offered in some states by Dick's Sporting Goods.

Some consider the double barrel gun more appropriate for HD than an auto or pump because they are more reliable. However, following this logic, a single trigger double gun wouldn't be in the running, especially a bargain basement single trigger gun.

In theory, perhaps. In the real world I'll take a good pump over a Maverick O/U any day as far as reliability per $ is concerned.

And I'll keep relying on my 1911 for defense -- over any of these options ...

( we knew you were kidding Klawman) ...we hoped anyway ....

Amen, Brother Jim.
Have you noticed, it seems those of us with the most experience with shotguns are the ones who opt for handguns for HD?

I have a pump in the house hanging around somewhere - bought it back in the stone age when I was young and "macho" - a few shots through the PGO quickly relegated it to the closet - even with a standard synthetic stock, it is not my choice

The problem with a shotgun as a HD weapon is accessibility...fine if you are already home, but I came home to a ransacked home once, and guess who would have had my HD shotgun if left in the closet? You could lock it up when not at home, but most people will not do this regularly..and probably forget to unlock it once home. I'll stick to my Kahr K40.

The thing about a handgun for HD is doesn't it take a great deal more effort and training to gainthe skill needed to hit a moving man across a darkened room where it is going to stop him in his tracks? I think the ideal situation is to have a pistol in the nightstand and a shotgun nearby.

Personally, TKM, the ideal is top prevent him from getting inside in the first place - a dog or two, using things like thorny berry or rose bushes under every window, motion lights, etc. - the objective being to make him want to go rob someone else so YOU don't have to go through the trauma of possibly killing an intruder and dealing with the mental and civil anguish that follows.

WAY too many think they are going to behave calm and cool like they do playing a video game - reality is far different than that
