Most versatile semiauto?

I think the Glock 20 is the most versatile semiautomatic hand gun. Without any need of gunsmithing, only the ability to handload, the 10mm can be used to plink with light loads, defend hearth and home with premium loads and hunt with hot loads to light loads. (Depending upon what is being hunted.)

With a simple barrel swap, and maybe a different recoil spring, you can shoot .357 SIG to 9X25 Dillon.

Steyr M40

I handed my Steyr M40 over to guy that shoots IDPA all the time with Glock and 1911's. He shot with similar degree of accuracy compared to his rigs and the gun is lighter and smaller than both, so it's easier to carry ccw. Steyr will become more popular again once DSARMS gets the importer license. Plus it only costs $600 at full retail, I paid $350 at a gun show. The best gun purchase I have ever made.

WRONG WRONG WRONG

Without question (sorry) THE MOST VERSATILE gun is the 'small-frame' Tanfoglio/Witness.

9x19, 9x21, 40 S&W, 41AE (never seen the 22LR conversion, but apparently there is one).

Without a doubt, the Glock 20. It's about the only auto out there that doesn't require gunsmithing skills (for example, does not involve roll pins) to completely take apart.
